When Albums Ruled The World

Documentary showing how the long-playing album changed popular music for ever between the mid 1960s and the late 1970s by allowing artists to express themselves as never before.

The magic of the long-playing vinyl album is lovingly profiled as we make tracks back to its golden age, from the mid-1960s through the 1970s. Packaged in sleeves that were art in themselves, the LP was a playground for musicians to think outside the grooves and helped shape the soundtrack of a generation, which produced Bob Dylan, The Doors and The Beatles. Noel Gallagher and Mike Oldfield are among those singing the LP’s praises.

Liam Gallagher Says The New Beady Eye Album Is Like Rock 'N' Roll, But Fired Out Into Space

Liam Gallagher tells teen fan: 'You'll like the new Beady Eye album if you're into drugs'

Frontman also says he has finished mixing new Beady Eye album

Liam Gallagher has been filmed telling a teenage fan that the new Beady Eye album is, "like rock 'n' roll, but fired out into space".

Two teenage fans, Ryan Butterworth and Elliot Cole, ran into Gallagher outside the Forester's Arms in Brockenhurst this week, and have uploaded their impromptu interview to YouTube – scroll down to watch. Chatting to Butterworth about the forthcoming second album from Beady Eye, Gallagher says: "It's rock 'n' roll but it's fired out into space. If you're into drugs you'll like it. it's pretty druggy."

Liam also goes on to say that Beady Eye will be touring soon and that they are currently getting plans for lives shows together. "We'll be out in a few months. We're playing festivals, bar mitzvahs. We've got to make it right this time, last time was a bit fucking stupid." When camera man Cole asks about the possibility of Beady Eye playing Reading Festival, Liam responds: "We're not doing that fucking thing!"

Speaking to NME about his chance encounter with Gallagher, Ryan Butterworth described the Beady Eye frontman as "genuinely the nicest man I have ever met".

Liam was in Brockenhurst – where Butterworth is a college student – at a local recording studio where, Butterworth reports, he said he had just finished mixing Beady Eye's new album.

"He was happy to be filmed – he didn't mention it – and he was happy to look at the camera. He was really down to earth and I stayed with him for about two hours drinking with him. [I was] asking lots of questions he said he was in the area as he just finished mixing the new album around the corner."

For Butterworth, it was a dream come true. "I am a huge Gallagher fan," he says. "I have every record ever. Being a musician there is no one I look up to more in music."

Beady Eye are expected to release their new album later on in 2013. Earlier this year Liam Gallagher said the album "is the LP Oasis should have made after '...Morning Glory.''

Russell Brand Finds Liam Gallagher Sexy

Last year we revealed that Liam Gallagher had called Russell Brand a “dick” after we spent a boozy night with the ex-Oasis frontman.

But now Russell is having his say on the matter, admitting that despite Liam’s jibe he still finds the star sexy.

The funnyman, 37, confessed: “Liam’s music has given me pleasure, but it turns out he thinks I am a dick. That is the price I have paid.

“I am very good friends with his brother and they have a notorious spat.

“Noel is a proper serious good mate. But I like Liam. If you see him on the stage he is very sexy and a brilliant rock star.”

Russ added: “One of the cultural mistakes we make is we expect people who are good at one thing to be good at everything. Take Michael Jackson. He was very good pop star but he had issues in his private life.”

Which is clearly a lot nicer than what Liam had to say about Russ at last year’s Cosmo awards.

He blasted in November: “He’s a dick. I don’t care about any of his relationships. All I know is anyone can do better than go out with him.”

Liam Gallagher Visits The Foresters Arms In Brockenhurst

A British music legend stopped for a pint at a New Forest pub today.

Former Oasis front man Liam Gallagher spent four hours at The Foresters Arms in Brockenhurst with his manager and producer, and was delighted to chat to fans, including many students from Brockenhurst College.

The owner of the pub, Andrew Colverson, said the whole village was buzzing with news of the rock star’s impromptu visit.

“He just turned up for a drink,” he said.

“A couple of students came in and called their mates and quite a few of them ended up coming in, and he made time to chat to all of them. He even signed one lad’s guitar, so he’ll be chuffed.”

Mr Colverson said Gallagher was “very, very nice”, and drank Heineken during his visit.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Go Let It Out" is a song by English rock band Oasis, written by the band's lead guitarist Noel Gallagher.

It was released on February 7th 2000 as the first single from the fourth studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. The song peaked at #1 in the UK charts where it went Silver.

The lyrics are a similar vein to "Roll With It" in that it encourages the listener to get on with their life without being specific about how this is to be achieved. The song samples the drums from Johnny Jenkins' version of Dr John's "I Walk on Gilded Splinters". The title may be a reference to the line in "Hey Jude" by The Beatles, "So let it out and let it in, hey, Jude, begin". Noel described the song as "the closest we came to sounding like a modern day Beatles" in the 'Lock the Box' interview found on the DVD in the special edition of Stop the Clocks.

The song, along with B-side "(As Long As They've Got) Cigarettes in Hell", also embodies the psychedelic feel which the band experimented with on the album. It couples this with an acoustic guitar chord sequence. "Let's All Make Believe", the second B-Side is considered by many to be one of the best Oasis B-sides. Some people believe the lyrics of this song to relate to the cracks that began forming in the group at the time (see below), for example: "So let's all make believe/that we're still friends and we like each other."

Due to the departure of guitarist Bonehead and bassist Guigsy in the early recording sessions for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, the track features only Liam Gallagher (vocals), Noel Gallagher (rhythm guitar, bass guitar, lead guitar) and Alan White (drums).

Oasis were looking for replacements for founding members Bonehead and Guigsy and while Bonehead was quickly replaced with fellow Creation signing and former Heavy Stereo frontman Gem Archer, Guigsy proved harder to replace. Thus the trippy video for "Go Let It Out" had to be filmed with Noel on bass, Archer in Noel's role as lead guitarist and Liam in Archer's role as rhythm guitarist.

The b-side "Let's All Make Believe" has recently been included in several lists as a 'hidden gem', such as Q magazine placing it at number one on its list of '500 best lost tracks' and at 4 on its 'list of songs to download this month - January 2006.' Q magazine said in the description 'If Standing on the Shoulder of Giants had contained this track, it would have probably got another star'.

In the "lock the box" interview, Noel considers "Go Let It Out" to be "head and shoulders" above any other songs he had written during this time, and its "up there with some of the best things I've ever done."

"Go Let It Out" is included on Oasis' compilation album Stop the Clocks, and is the only song from Standing on the Shoulder of Giants on that album.

Hidden Hearing Responds To Noel Gallagher Revealing Battle With Tinnitus

Experts in private hearing healthcare, Hidden Hearing, have responded to news that rock star Noel Gallagher is suffering from Tinnitus.

The High Flying Birds front man and former Oasis guitarist revealed he is experiencing constant ringing in the ears, during a recent interview with Talksport DJ Andy Goldstein.

Diagnosed by doctors, he joins other music stars including The Who’s Pete Townshend and Coldplay’s Chris Martin who also suffer from the condition after years of playing loud music shows.

The guitarist revealed he has had a brain scan to get to the bottom of the constant ringing in his ears.

Tinnitus is characterised by ringing, buzzing or whistling in one or both ears, when there is no external sound causing it. Around one in ten people suffer with Tinnitus in the UK.

A spokesperson from Hidden Hearing said: “By Noel Gallagher and other celebrities talking about their experience with Tinnitus, hopefully we will see more people aware of the condition and taking steps to protect their ears from damage and hearing loss. For those that already suffer from Tinnitus, we feature a range of tips and advice on our website to help ease the symptoms of the condition.”

Noel Gallagher, Prince Harry, David Beckham, Karl Pilkington Make Cool Countdown

It’s official: Noel Gallagher, Robbie Williams and Plan B are amongst the coolest men in Britain!

Readers of ZOO Magazine voted in their thousands in the publication’s annual ‘Britain’s Coolest Man’ poll with the results being unveiled today.

Former Oasis guitarist/songwriter is the highest ranked music star at number 11 ahead of Robbie Williams in 16th spot. Rapper turned soul singer and movie star Plan B sneaked in at number 20.

However, they were all trumped by boxer Carl Froch who stormed in at number one ahead of Prince Harry and Hollywood actor Tom Hardy.

35-year-old Froch commented: “It’s an honour and a privilege! I’m surprised Jason Statham didn’t win, though.

“I can see why Prince Harry is runner-up. He got rumbled for stripping off and having a laugh in Vegas recently, but who cares? He’s a soldier, puts his time in and lads take to him.”

ZOO Editor Damien McSorley added: “Carl Froch is well worthy of the title, Britain's Coolest Man 2013, having elevated himself to become Britain's leading boxer.

“Carl is a people's champion; a home-grown, self-made success story, who remains down-to-earth, outspoken and close to his Nottingham roots.”

The 20 coolest men in Britain, according to ZOO Magazine, are as follows:

1. Carl Froch
2. Prince Harry
3. Tom Hardy
4. David Beckham

Oasis Up For Inclusion In Music Walk Of Fame

Camden Town is to get a Hollywood-style walk of fame, which will honour pop music greats linked with the area such as Pink Floyd, Oasis and Amy Winehouse.

Endorsed by the Los Angeles movie-star original, Camden's will honour music's greatest performers with a bronze and stone disc, presumably to mimic a vinyl record, set in the pavement. Each disc is set to cost about £500.

Those chosen will be split into five groups: influential artists; innovative artists; unsung heroes; and industry types. After a committee has come up with a shortlist, we all get the chance to vote on the Music Walk of Fame's website.

The shortlist hasn't been decided yet, but hints have been dropped that among those in the first tranche will be Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, The Doors, Marc Bolan, The Move, Cream, Hawkwind, Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass, Suede, Madonna, Radiohead and Public Enemy.

The list is to be announced in May.
