The Pretty Green campaign this AW13 is ‘THE VINYL REVOLUTION’ reflecting the growing interest in buying more vinyl and celebrating the heritage of the British record shop.

To celebrate this they have teamed up with Men’s Fabulous Magazine to bring together like minded individuals who have a passion for all things vinyl.

You can meet some vinyl experts. They’ll be on hand to give your records or albums a valuation, so have a dig in your collections to find that hidden gem.

Pretty Green will provide free drinks alongside live sets from This Feeling’s resident DJ’s, as well as the experts from Across the Tracks Brighton.

There'll be a free goody bag for the first 50 people to arrive through the doors with their records.

Rock Band Mona On Touring With Noel Gallagher

Ohio rock band Mona who supported Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. When we caught up with the foursome at Austin City Limits Fest, they told us about the ex-Oasis guitarist, he's actually an awesome touring partner.

"From his tour manager down to the drivers, they are the most professional, respectful people we've ever been around," Mona said about the controversial rocker. "He doesn't go out of his way to be overly friendly, but he's not a d-ck. He's not Morrissey." I believe that's what they call "Shots fired!" Your turn, Morrissey.

New Book About The Early Years Of Oasis Is In Stores Later This Month

Inspired by classic British bands such as The Beatles, The Jam, The Stone Roses and The Sex Pistols, mixed with overseas influences like Neil Young and Burt Bacharach, these artists filled the ears of the band’s songwriter, Noel Gallagher, giving his songs and anthems the melodic edge that filled festivals, auditoriums and concert halls near and far.

The book features unseen photos and unheard stories as the authors Deabill and Snowball take the reader back to the nights of riotous gigs, Definitely Maybe, Oasis vs Blur, the mammoth-selling second album What’s The Story (Morning Glory) and how over an eighth of the UK’s population applied for tickets for the band’s record-breaking gigs at Knebworth.

About the book

Supersonic: Personal Situations With Oasis (1992–96) charts the Manchester band’s meteoric rise from the tiny venues of their hometown to playing to 250,000 people over two days in the Summer of 1996, as told by the fans and people who worked closely with the band during these formative years.

Headed by the brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, Oasis made guitars cool again, put attitude back in the charts and saw their music reach all four corners of the globe with swagger and style.

This is the real story of the early days of rock and roll’s last stand.

Noel Gallagher: Bayern Munich Are The Best Team I’ve Ever Seen Play Manchester City

Legendary musician Noel Gallagher joined Jason Cundy and Andy Goldstein on The Sports Bar on Thursday night to talk all things Manchester City.

He looks back on their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich and he admits the German giants, who dominated throughout their Champions League clash, are probably the best team he has ever seen at the Etihad Stadium.

And Gallagher also gives his views on Joe Hart’s performance and how Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure is shaping up.

Hi all.

Gem here saying a big thank you from the bottom of my being to everyone for their kind words, wishes, messages and patience over the past weeks. I am on the mend, not gone round the bend and treading carefully whilst taking each day as a giant leap forward.

I still consider myself lucky, who knows why things happen, but they do and it all could have been much worse but it wasn't.

That was then and as of now, I can't wait to stand with a guitar in my hand alongside the rest of the boys, on a stage in front of some of you from November onwards.

"You can't change the wind, but you can change how you walk into it" as an old friend said to me once. Here's to next time and knowing a little more of how to do the walk!

Alan McGee Says Oasis Will Be Back At Some Point

Alan McGee made his name and fortune by signing what was then an unknown band from Manchester called Oasis.

Collectively, their albums sold tens of millions of copies and made Creation - McGee's record label - famous.

He became a face of Britpop and a regular at No 10 - but financial problems led to McGee selling his company and personal problems led to issues with drink and drugs.

Now the 53-year-old Glaswegian is back, with a new label and a new life and still has plenty to say about the industry.

Reflecting on the future of Oasis, McGee told the BBC's arts editor, Will Gompertz: "Oasis will come back at some point... if they get back together it will be for a mega-bucks tour."

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Live DVD Nominated For Music Video Award

Noel Gallagher,  Foals, and Florence & The Machine and are just some of the acts to have made the cut on the comprehensive list of nominees for the sixth annual UK Music Video Awards.

Foals’ promo for ‘Late Night‘ is up for Best UK Rock/Indie Video, while they are also recognised in the Best Visual Effects category thanks to ‘Bad Habit‘.

Florence & The Machine, meanwhile, land mentions in the Best Cinematography and Best UK Alternative Video sections, while Noel Gallagher’s live DVD ‘International Magic – Live At The 02‘ will compete with Led Zeppelin, Mumford & Sons, Plan B, Savages and The Vaccines for Best Live Coverage.

“The MVAs has become a globally-recognised event for celebrating the outstanding creative work in music videos in the UK and around the world,” editorial director David Knight comments. “Last year filmmakers travelled from Europe and the United States to attend our biggest show ever. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is the second album by the English rock band Oasis, released on October 2 1995. The album went straight to #1 in the UK, selling 347,000 copies in its first week. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? spawned four hit singles in the UK, two of which were #1s. It sold over 19 million copies worldwide, including over 4.3 million copies in the UK, 14x platinum, and is currently the third biggest-selling album in UK chart history. Morning Glory has gone 4x platinum in the United States In addition, the singles "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova" went Gold in the United States.

The album, which was recorded in less than two weeks, contains arguably the band's two most famous songs, "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger", along with "Champagne Supernova" and their first UK #1 single, "Some Might Say".

In 1997 Morning Glory was named the 5th greatest album of all time in a 'Music of the Millennium' poll conducted by HMV, Channel 4, The Guardian and Classic FM. In 1998 Q magazine readers placed it at number 8, and in 2000 it achieved the same position in Q's list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. The editors of Q magazine declared it the "album of the decade" in 1999. The readers of Q placed it seventh on the 2006 top 100 greatest albums of all time list. In 2003, the album was ranked number 376 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

History

The success of Morning Glory catapulted Oasis from being a successful Britpop band to being one of the biggest bands in Britain, with substantial international fame, and considerable press coverage in the mainstream and music press. The band played several massive open air concerts in the UK during 1996, which included two nights at Knebworth in front of a combined audience of 250,000 people (125,000 each night), with over 2.5 million applying to buy tickets.

Notes:

* Tracks 6 and 11 are officially untitled. In fact, the track listing bears no title whatsoever for these songs, merely a blank space.

* "Step Out" had to be removed from the album at the last minute. The song, sung by Noel, was intended to have been the original track 8 (after "Some Might Say" and before "Cast No Shadow"), but was removed as the chorus was similar to the chorus of Stevie Wonder's 1965 track "Uptight (Everything's Alright)". Wonder's publishing company were alleged to have demanded a substantial amount of royalties from the album which Oasis weren't prepared to pay, so the track was removed, although not before the first promotional copies of the album had been released with "Step Out" included. The track was eventually released as a B-side on Oasis' 1996 single "Don't Look Back in Anger", with an amended song writing credit of 'Gallagher/Wonder/Cosby/May', and was included on the live album Familiar to Millions.

Miscellanea

"Hello" contains elements of Gary Glitter's "Hello Hello I'm Back Again" as Liam jokingly sings part of the song's chorus when the song begins to fade out.

On the cover of the album a man is seen brandishing what looks to be a vinyl record in its sleeve. This is in fact the master tape for the album. The man in question is Owen Morris, the producer. The photo was taken on Berwick Street in Soho, a London street well known for its independent record shops. The other man is BBC London's Sean Rowley.

On This Day In Oasis History...

The Shock Of the Lightning" is a song by British rock band Oasis and is the fourth track from the band's seventh studio album Dig Out Your Soul. The song was released as the first single from the album on 29 September 2008. It received its first airplay on 15 August 2008 on multiple UK and Irish radio stations including the Ian Dempsey Breakfast show on Today FM in Ireland, BBC 6 Music by Shaun Keaveny, and by Chris Moyles on BBC Radio 1. Chris was joined by Noel Gallagher on the 15 August 2008.

Noel said of the song: "If 'The Shock of the Lightning' sounds instant and compelling to you, it’s because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. 'The Shock of the Lightning' basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best”. It was described by NME as "a massively improved version of 'It's Gettin' Better (Man!!)'" and featuring "love is a litany/a magical mystery" as the song's chorus.

The single is the first Oasis song to feature a remix on a studio release. The B-side is a remixed version of the album track "Falling Down" by The Chemical Brothers, who Noel has worked with in the past. However, a promo release of Oasis' cover of "Cum On Feel the Noize" contained the "Lynchmob Beats Mix" of "Champagne Supernova" by Brandon Lynch that was also re-released as a stand alone promo for Stop the Clocks. Consequently this is their first official CD single release that does contain a new track as a B-side.

On 30 July 2008, the official Oasis website posted a Dig Out Your Soul trailer which contained a 23 second clip of the intro to "The Shock of the Lightning" as well as a 20 second clip of the drum solo. On 15 August 2008, the song received it first airplay on the The Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1 with Noel Gallagher present. Noel said of the song on Shaun Keaveny's Radio 6 show, "It's a driving, pumping, pop, rock 'n' roll masterpiece". In NME, the song was named as 'song of the week' and received a score of 9/10, despite being referred to as "only the fifth best song on Dig Out Your Soul".





















"The Shock Of The Lightning" entered the UK Singles Chart at #3, becoming the band's first lead single since their debut, "Supersonic", to fail to reach #1 in their homeland. However the song reached #12 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart in the USA, making it their most successful single there since "Don't Go Away", which peaked on the chart at #5 in 1998. It also reached #93 on the Billboard Hot 100, their first song to chart on the Hot 100 since "Don't Look Back in Anger" in 1996.



Music video

The music video for the song (directed by Julian House and Julian Gibbs) debuted on the band's official site on 25 August at 17:30 (UK time) and was broadcast on Channel 4 at 23:40. The video depicts Liam singing and the occasional appearance of the rest of the band, intercut with stock footage related to the album's artwork. The opening shot of the video of silhouetted heads is a reference to the cover of the Rolling Stones compilation record Hot Rocks 1964-1971.

Radio 1 Music Boss Says 'Noel Gallagher's Music Is More At Home On Radio 2'

Playlist bosses George Ergatoudis and Nigel Harding discuss Green Day, Robbie Williams and Muse.

BBC Radio 1music bosses have described Noel Gallagher's music as "more at home on Radio 2" while admitting that Green Day's recent output has not been good enough to get played by the station.

Both head of music at Radio 1, George Ergatoudis, and Nigel Harding, the station's music policy director, have answered a number of questions from music industry figures in the new issue of Music Week. Among those quizzing the pair is Kevin McCabe, a music promotions specialist, who asked what the concise criteria is regarding an artist's age and how that affects their chances of being playlisted on Radio 1.

Responding to the confusion around Robbie Williams' 2012 single 'Candy' not making the playlist but his 'Goin' Crazy' collaboration with Dizzee Rascal being played heavily, Nigel Harding says: "This is all about the age of the artist's primary audience. In Robbie's case we believe that his main fan base is comfortably over the age of 30, whereas Dizzee's is clearly much lower." Moving on to Noel Gallagher, Harding adds: "I think Noel's music feels more at home on Radio 2, and the last Green Day project simply wasn't good enough."

Muse also came into consideration with Harding stating: "Muse are approaching a crossroads - their last single was the first one not playlisted by Radio 1 in a decade. The door remains open to them but we'll have to think carefully about their next album."

Previously,Robbie Williams called Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw a "bastard" during a live appearance following the stations refusal to playlist his song 'Candy', saying that the former Take That singer was too old for them to champion.

Noel Gallagher's Regret Over Oasis' 'Be Here Now' Album

Rocker Noel Gallagher cringes every time he hears a song from Oasis' 1997 album Be Here Now, insisting the tracks make no sense as he was drug-addled when he wrote them. The guitarist worked at a breakneck pace to record the hotly-anticipated follow-up to (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, but just weeks before heading into the studio with his bandmates he realised he had no lyrics for the songs.

Gallagher decided to spirit himself away in a Caribbean bolthole to write the words, and he has regretted his decision ever since. He tells British magazine Event, "I had all the music but not the words. We were starting in two weeks, so I went to some Caribbean island and I thought I'd do it all in two weeks. I listen to those words now and I just cringe. I was heavily into drugs at that point and I just didn't give a damn."

Liam Gallagher Set To Buy A Pub In London?

Liam Gallagher is now considering becoming the landlord of a drinking den in the same north London.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''Liam has been asking about the status of a pub called The Rosslyn Arms.

''He's always drinking in the area and thinks it'll be a good investment.''
