Noel Gallagher: There'll Never Be Another Oasis

Gallagher told fans on a social networking chat site that Manchester is a city that taught him not to dream.

Noel Gallagher believes Manchester will never produce another band as big as Oasis, he has told fans on a social media website.

Noel gave over a bit of his Bank Holiday weekend for an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on social networking website Reddit, and told readers he “lived in hope” that the days of great northern rock bands wasn’t over.

Answering a question from madferitNYC, Noel said: “I think that the days of a rock band explodin’ out of a council estate in the north of England and going on to connect with so many people in so many countries around the world... I think the chances of that happenin’ again are very, very slim.”

The 47-year-old - who hosted the online chat to promote his world tour and second album with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Chasing Yesterday - also said the city he grew up in had taught him not to set goals.

“Where I came from, and the times that I grew up in, it was best not to have any ambitions. It was quite a bleak time,” he said, in answer to a question from user Gusrodlopez.

“I never had a life goal until I wrote Live Forever. And then when I wrote Live Forever, I wanted to be in the biggest band in the world.”

Noel also answered questions about his music tastes, streaming websites, his favourite foods, and whether he’d consider a duet with his cat Boots. Chuckling, he said: “Eh...Boots is an arrogant little ****... He’s been ignoring me for the last ******* five years.

“Me and Boots could never work together. There would be too many ‘artistic differences’.”

Noel’s famous sense of humour was obvious right though the virtual talk. In response to a question about his pre-show warm up routine he said, “I sing The Macarena. I do some yodelin’. And then I finish with Crazy in Love by Beyonce”.

And when one user asked if it ‘bothered him being considered a veritable sex god’, he replied, “It’s a cross I have to bear. And unfortunately... you know, it’s a long road that I will have to carry this cross down. But I could think of worse things to be”.

He credited his Irish roots for his fast wit. Asked about what he found funny, he said American TV show Seinfeld - “The greatest thing that’s ever been on television” - and “dogs in hats and sunglasses - there is NOTHING funnier than a dog in a hat”.

Noel Gallagher Chooses His Favourite Smiths Songs

In an online chat with fans, the former Oasis guitarist and songwriter talked about another bunch of Manchester greats, The Smiths, and which of their tunes he loves the most.

Ever wondered which songs top Noel Gallagher’s Smiths playlist?

In an online chat with fans, Noel named There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, The Queen Is Dead, Rusholme Ruffians, These Things Take Time, Rubber Ring and Asleep as the best songs that Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce wrote during their short five year career.

“Amongst others,” quipped Noel, who has recently welcomed Johnny Marr on stage with him at some of his solo shows, at the end of the list.

The Smiths, who released four albums between 1984 and 1987 and had more than a dozen hit singles including Panic, How Soon Is Now? and This Charming Man, often top reader polls as the Manchester band most people would like to see reform - alongside Gallagher’s own Oasis.

In the same chat, on website Reddit, Noel also confessed a guilty admiration for 1980s pop band Tears For Fears and said he’d love a chance to duet with Pink Floyd’s Dave Gillmore, Yardbird’s guitarist Jeff Beck and Davie Bowie.

“If he (Bowie) would even shake a maraca for one tune, that’d be great,” he said about the 1970s superstar.

On classical music, Noel expressed an admiration for celebrated conductor Ennio Morricone - famous for his soundtracks to films such as A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon A Time In The West, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.

“I’ve seen ’im twice in the last five years,” Noel said. “And his music does bring a tear to my eye. I think he’s a genius.

“Like me.”

Noel Gallagher On Being The Last True Rock Star And More

On Friday, Noel Gallagher was the latest musician to take plunge and participate in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything). The outspoken Oasis guitarist delivered with a number of spectacular quotes, including a declaration regarding his place within rock and roll’s hierarchy.

Asked how he feels being “one of the last true rock stars,” Gallagher responded, “It feels good to be one of the last rockstars,” adding, “In fact, that’s what I am.”

In a related question, Gallagher was asked whether a rock band in 2015 can reach the popularity of Oasis, to which he replied, “I think that the days of a rock band explodin’ out of a council estate in the north of England and going on to connect with so many people in so many countries around the world… I think the chances of that happenin’ again are very, very slim.” But he added, “We live in a world of hope.”

He also believes “rock n’ roll has turned into – or been turned into – a thing that is now referred to as ‘modern rock,'” adding, “I just think that the attitude, and the spirit, that we had is definitely disappearing.”

Elsewhere in the AMA, Gallagher declared Oasis’ third studio album Be Here Now “shit .. And I’m allowed to say that because I fucking wrote it.” Despite that, there will be a reissue of Be Here Now in the near future, which will include “The Mustique Demos.”

As for an Oasis reunion, while Gallagher didn’t address it specifically, it definitely seems like it won’t be happening anytime soon. Gallagher told fans he expects to tour with the High Flying Birds well into 2016.

Also unlikely is a collaboration album with Damon Albarn. Despite previously suggesting a joint album was a realistic possibility, Gallagher isn’t so sure now. “The thing with Damon was a flippant comment as casually thrown around as ‘We should go for a drink.’ As for makin’ an album, I would be amazed if either of us ever had the time to make that work.”

More Noel Gallagher At Glastonbury Rumours

Tabloid reports today (May 2) suggest that The Who will be announced as the third, and final, of this year's Glastonbury headliners.

Speculation about the third headline act for this year's festival has increased in recent weeks with the name yet to be announced. It was previously announced that Foo Fighters and Kanye West will headline the Friday and Saturday nights of the festival respectively.

However, The Sun has today reported that it will be The Who that close this year's festival and that they will be joined on the line-up by either Noel Gallagher or Paul Weller performing in the slot directly before them.

A "festival insider" is reported to have told the newspaper that: "The Who booking has been kept quiet because the band are also playing a Hyde Park gig for the British Summer Time festival so the announcement will be made in a few weeks. The band are still one of the best live groups and are currently on their 50th-anniversary tour, so it’s bound to be an amazing show."

"There’ll also be support from an artist like Paul Weller or Noel Gallagher. It will be a dream night for rock fans."

Noel Gallagher Confirms Oasis Are Not Reforming

Noel Gallagher appeared on Alan Carr’s Chattyman and was easily the funniest guy there.

But he was also the most tragic as he broke a million hearts.

Alan Carr asked him about the possibility of him and brother Liam reforming Oasis for Glastonbury, and Noel did not say what everyone wanted to hear.

‘Is it true?’ Alan asked.

‘No,’ Noel replied, killing off a thousand dreams.

‘I don’t think it’s going to happen. What more can I say?’

But the real reason why it’s not on the cards? ‘I can’t be arsed.’

Unbelievable. So no Oasis at Glastonbury. Sad times.
