The arena turned purple when it housed Prince's last Scottish gig in 2014 and it was lit up again in tribute to the music icon tonight.

Scotland's biggest music venue turned purple last night in tribute to Prince .

The Hydro in Glasgow was bathed in purple light as rockstar Noel Gallagher played a gig there tonight.

The Oasis frontman, now with his own band High Flying Birds, paid his own tribute on stage by blasting out the Prince hit Let's Go Crazy.

He also dedicated Oasis hit Live Forever to the iconic musician.

Noel Gallagher told fans at the gig: "So, I was in a band once. We had an album called Standing on the Shoulders of Giants and one of those giants was Prince.

"So you're going to help me pay tribute to the great man and help me do Live Forever."

Is Noel Gallagher Making His Own Bid For An Oscar?

Noel Gallagher is getting closer to his Oscar dream after teaming up with a soundtrack great.

David Holmes, who has scored hit movies including Ocean’s Eleven, is producing the singer’s next solo album.

Now the hope is that Hollywood bigwigs will use his new material for a movie and get Noel that Academy Award nod.

An insider told me: “With David’s influence, getting the music on to a film soundtrack stands a very good chance.”

UK stars Adele, 27, and Sam Smith, 23, have nabbed an Oscar in recent years.

And the elder Gallagher, 48, admits he’s a bit jealous.

He said recently: “It would be nice if I could write a song for a fi lm which would win me an Oscar.”

Due out next year, the rock legend called his new solo music “f***ing brilliant”, dashing any lingering Oasis reunion hopes.

Producer David, who is up for an Ivor Novello Award, recently remixed some of Noel's work.

And Noel explained: “I’m working with a producer in a way I’ve never worked before which is writing in the studio and my producer’s suggesting jumping off points.

“The end results are pretty good at the moment.”

Game Of Thrones Actor Based His Villainous Character On Liam Gallagher

Well here’s a compliment for Liam Gallagher – the way one of Game Of Thrones’s most hated and evil characters is portrayed is based on him!

Iwan Rheon has confessed that he took inspiration from the Oasis brother when playing scenes as the sinister Ramsay Bolton, adding that he also took elements of The Joker and, uhh Dennis The Menace.

Yeah, we reckon that Ramsay might be a little bit more terrifying than a Beano character with a catapault.

According to NME, Rheon explained that he pitched Ramsay ‘somewhere between the Joker from The Dark Knight and Dennis the Menace, with a little bit of Liam Gallagher in there.’

The psychotic character is married to Sansa Stark and has been involved in some of the most violent scenes in the fantasy show.

Richard Ashcroft Wants To Work With Noel and Liam Gallagher On A Musical With Oasis

Your dream of a Britpop jukebox musical will come true if Richard Ashcroft has anything to do with it.

The Verve frontman wants to work with Oasis stars Noel and Liam Gallagher on a musical, and has already thought about its structure and story, as well as joking that he'd play himself.

"I'd like to do a musical of our songs combined, in a story of both our youths and the combination at the end, and the fact that we have both crossed paths, been mates, looked after each other," Ashcroft told Noisey.

Last year, Noel said he "should make a record" with the Verve frontman but for Ashcroft, he'll work with both of them or neither of them.

"The pros are [Noel is] an amazing songwriter. So if I get 50% on the publishing then it's obviously cha-ching for both of us," Ashcroft explained. "But there's a lot of negatives working with either of them and not working with the other one. It's like being a brother in the middle."

Ashcroft's next collaboration will be with The Who as a special guest at the Isle of Wight Festival, where he'll perform songs from his new solo album These People.

Noel Gallagher Reveals Who's Producing His Next Album And More

Below are a number of videos of Noel gallagher during a recent interview in Belguim. During the interview he talked about who's producing his new album and more.

On his new album he said "David Holmes is producing it, and I’m singing one song in the highest register I’ve ever got to in my entire life. It’s almost unenjoyable singing it.”

As some of you may remember David Holmes did the remix of 'The Girl With The X Ray Eyes' for the 'Where The City Meets The Sky: Chasing Yesterday The Remixes' EP.

He said at the time "When I first heard 'The Girl With The X Ray Eyes' I immediately heard the influence of David Bowie's 'Space Oddity' which made me think of another great version by the Langley Schools Project... after listening to the lyrics on repeat for a few hours I thought they had a real picture book sensibility so I called my daughter's primary school teacher John Hunter who is a massive Noel fan. I told him my idea and he spoke to the head master who give us permission . So John rehearsed the kids for 5 days during breaks with Claire Dean (music teacher ) and I stopped by and recorded it in their assembly hall."

 Listen to the remix here.

Noel Gallagher On Why Scotland Has Always Been At The Heart Of His Career

Since his first life-changing show at King Tut’s, the former Oasis man has put the country at the top of his list of favourite places to play, insisting it’s an honour to perform for what he considers the best crowd on the planet.

He’s back at the SSE Hydro this week with his band High Flying Birds and has announced his biggest-ever show here, playing Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park in August. He can’t wait to get onstage to do what he does best in front of the people who get it the most.

He said: “Every artist in the world who plays in Scotland will tell you that there’s something about the crowds that is unique. The passion and spirit is second to none.

“That’s where Oasis got signed and it was the scene of some of our greatest shows, like Loch Lomond and King Tut’s, so I’ve always had a great affection for it.

“Plus the fact my wife is Scottish, which pretty much makes me Scottish and my kids Scottish. I love the place

Another On This Day In Oasis History...

The videos below are from April 17th 1995, when Oasis appeared on the White Room Sessions in London, they performed Acquiesce, It's Good To Be Free and Talk Tonight with special guest Paul Weller.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Who Feels Love?" is a song by British rock band Oasis, written by the band's lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. It became the second single to be released from the album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, peaking at number 4 in the UK charts when released on 17th of April 2000.

The album was noted for its psychedelic feel, and "Who Feels Love?" was held up as the most extreme example of this. Mark Stent was praised for his production on the song, creating a "trippy" feel like that found on Beatles songs such as "Rain". With the psychedelic and Eastern sound, the song also reminds of George Harrison achievements like "Within You Without You" and also some of his solo work.

However, despite the high-quality production, the song was not well received by the critics, NME said that the production "triumphs over any real sort of feeling... pure mock Maharishi spirituality that not even Liam can salvage from the realm of self-parody".

One of the B-sides is a cover of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter". It was played live during the Shoulders tour of 2000. Paul Weller recorded a version of b-side "One Way Road" for his covers-album Studio 150 in 2004. The Weller version was subsequently used as the theme tune to Jack Dee's sitcom Lead Balloon.

Irish musician Rob Smith said in an interview on Irish national television in December 2006 that this was the most under-rated song of all time and should be "praised for its genius".
