One in 20 Britons applied for tickets to see Oasis in concert at Knebworth. Our critic joined the crowd on Saturday.
Three million people, 5 per cent of the population, applied for tickets and those lucky enough to get them were treated to two new songs, My Big Mouth and It's Getting Better Man , along with tried and tested hits. With a guest list of 7,000 there were plenty of opportunities for star-spotting: Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, Jarvis Cocker and Kate Moss made their way to the celebrity enclosure to compare bodyguards with Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit, and all looked disingenuously surprised when mobbed by amateur paparazzi.
For those not chosen as Kate Moss's plus one, there were tickets still available at a price. Cro-Magnon touts were willing to get you into "The Gig of the Decade" for £300, a sizeable mark-up from £22.50. Once inside, many would have gladly paid £300 to avoid queues. There were 400-yard tailbacks for each bar and toilet. But with the temperature into the 70s and a PA so powerful everyone was guaranteed to leave touched by tinnitus, such matters were of little importance. Oasis took to the stage at 9pm, greeted by a roar so huge that flocks of birds took to the sky from Knebworth's old oaks.
"Hello, hello, hello," Liam said, making a fairly good job of John Lennon's famous "retard" impression. "Let's go." And off they went, kicking out the music that has made the Top 40 truly exciting for the first time in ten years and working hard for the estimated £5.6 million the weekend accrued.
Joined for the inevitable encore of Champagne Supernova by The Stone Roses's ex-guitar player John Squire, Oasis bowed out in a blaze of guitar solos and a firework display. As many tired and emotional punters fell over backwards, disorientated from staring at the sky so long, Martin Carr of the Boo Radleys said: "Everyone in Britain - except Damon from Blur - loves Oasis. They can do no wrong." He would appear to be right.

Liam Gallagher has said that there’s “far too many” solo stars and that the majority of them are “c*nts”, further reiterating that he would prefer to be back in Oasis.

Liam Gallagher has said English bands “should be ashamed of the shit they put out” in a new interview.
The legendary musician recently returned to making music and is set to release his debut solo album ‘As You Were‘ in October.
Speaking to Noisey, Gallagher said there are “too many so-called rock’n’roll bands in England getting away with fucking murder.”
“They should be ashamed of the shit they put out,” he said. “They need fucking shooting.” While he declined to name any one band specifically, he did expand on what he found so bad about some groups’ output.
“They’ve got the tools to make guitar music great and they’re just fucking doing it half-arsed,” he said. “They’ve got one foot in the fucking dance world and one foot in the fucking guitar world and they’re just seeing which one fucking bites.”
He continued: “They’re there with their fucking keyboards and whistles and shit. If you’re going to do “guitar music” you have to put a fucking guitar on a record. Put the fucker in. Stop wearing it like it’s a fucking necklace.”
Meanwhile, Gallagher has also given his opinion on several music icons.
During an interview with GQ, Liam is asked about his thoughts on The Rolling Stones‘ frontman Mick Jagger. His verdict: “Fair play to ol’ dinosaur hips, but I’m not that man. I’m anti-entertainment. Poor sod, he’s got to dance until he’s 108.”
On Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl’s infamous throne that he performed live in when he broke his leg, Liam says: “He ruined it for all of us. He broke his leg and still toured. Who does that? Now if I have a ‘cold’ I can’t cancel because I’ll look like a wuss.”

Liam Gallagher has admitted that he still would like an Oasis reunion, as he and Noel are “better together”.
Speaking in a new Rolling Stone podcast, the former Oasis man has admitted that he “would prefer to be speaking about an Oasis album than a Liam solo album.”
“The English press seem to think that I’m going ’round giving the fans hope and then in the same breath, or the next interview, shooting them down,” Liam complains in the podcast. “All I said the other day on that Beats Radio was before we get back together, if we get ever back together, we’d have to become brothers and friends again. And then I imagine once that happens, and we start hanging out or whatever, and we’re mates, and we’re talking, and we’re each on a nice respectful level, I guess there would be, inevitably, we’d go, ‘Fuck it, should we take the fuckin’ band out for a spin, go on tour?’”
Liam continues: ‘“I know he [Noel] doesn’t want to be supporting U2 and playing a third of a stadium half-empty when he could do it himself with his brother. I would prefer to be speaking about an Oasis album than a Liam solo album. And I know Noel Gallagher would. We’re better together.”

Liam Gallagher has been telling Radio X that he spent years doing nothing between the demise of his band Beady Eye and the launch of his solo career and that it was his girlfriend Debbie Gwyther who gave him the impetus to start performing again.

"Live Forever" is a song by British rock group Oasis. Written by guitarist Noel Gallagher, the song was released as the third single from their debut album Definitely Maybe on 8 August 1994, just prior to that album's release.
Gallagher wrote the song in 1991, before he joined Oasis. Inspired by The Rolling Stones' "Shine a Light," "Live Forever" features a basic song structure and lyrics with an optimistic outlook that contrasted with the attitude of the grunge bands popular at the time. The song was the first Oasis single to enter the top ten in the United Kingdom, and garnered critical acclaim.
Background and recording
Noel Gallagher wrote "Live Forever" in 1991, while working for a building company in his hometown of Manchester. After his foot was crushed by a pipe in an accident, he was given a less-strenuous job working in the storeroom, allowing him more time to write songs. One night he was listening to The Rolling Stones' album Exile on Main St. While playing one of his own chord progressions, Gallagher noted that it sounded good against one of the vocal melodies from the album: "It was the bit from 'Shine a Light' that goes [sings], 'May the good lord shine a light on you,'" Gallagher recalled. Gallagher incorporated the melody, changing the line to "Maybe I don’t really want to know". For a period afterwards, that was the only part of the song Gallagher had completed.
The song was later instrumental in helping the band secure their record deal with Creation Records. Reflecting on when he first heard the song, Creation boss Alan McGee recalled "It was probably the single greatest moment I've ever experienced with them."
The demo version of "Live Forever" begins with an acoustic guitar intro. While recording the album version, the record's producer Owen Morris cut out this intro and replaced it with a drumbeat played by Tony McCarroll. Morris further cut a second section in Noel's guitar solo. Although Gallagher was upset, Morris felt the part had sounded "a bit like fucking Slash from Guns N' Roses".
Reception
"Live Forever" was released on 8 August 1994 as the band's third single, a month before the release of their debut album Definitely Maybe. Some of the UK version of the promotional video was filmed at the Strawberry Fields memorial, the area of New York City's Central Park dedicated to John Lennon—the single cover features 251 Menlove Avenue, the childhood home of Lennon. The American video, directed by Nick Egan, features the band playing in an office with pictures of Sid Vicious, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Marc Bolan, and Bobby Moore on the wall. Both videos are included on the 2004 Definitely Maybe DVD.

On This Day In Oasis History...
"Live Forever" is a song by British rock group Oasis. Written by guitarist Noel Gallagher, the song was released as the third single from their debut album Definitely Maybe on 8 August 1994, just prior to that album's release.
Gallagher wrote the song in 1991, before he joined Oasis. Inspired by The Rolling Stones' "Shine a Light," "Live Forever" features a basic song structure and lyrics with an optimistic outlook that contrasted with the attitude of the grunge bands popular at the time. The song was the first Oasis single to enter the top ten in the United Kingdom, and garnered critical acclaim.
Background and recording
Noel Gallagher wrote "Live Forever" in 1991, while working for a building company in his hometown of Manchester. After his foot was crushed by a pipe in an accident, he was given a less-strenuous job working in the storeroom, allowing him more time to write songs. One night he was listening to The Rolling Stones' album Exile on Main St. While playing one of his own chord progressions, Gallagher noted that it sounded good against one of the vocal melodies from the album: "It was the bit from 'Shine a Light' that goes [sings], 'May the good lord shine a light on you,'" Gallagher recalled. Gallagher incorporated the melody, changing the line to "Maybe I don’t really want to know". For a period afterwards, that was the only part of the song Gallagher had completed.
The song was later instrumental in helping the band secure their record deal with Creation Records. Reflecting on when he first heard the song, Creation boss Alan McGee recalled "It was probably the single greatest moment I've ever experienced with them."
The demo version of "Live Forever" begins with an acoustic guitar intro. While recording the album version, the record's producer Owen Morris cut out this intro and replaced it with a drumbeat played by Tony McCarroll. Morris further cut a second section in Noel's guitar solo. Although Gallagher was upset, Morris felt the part had sounded "a bit like fucking Slash from Guns N' Roses".

Liam Gallagher has let rip at brother Noel Gallagher once again, this time accusing him of selling out.
The former Oasis frontman has been frequently zinging his sibling in the press over the last few months, particularly after Noel's no-show at the recent One Love Manchester benefit concert.
However, it was Noel Gallagher's recent solo music with the High Flying Birds that raised the ire of Liam during an interview on Radio X's The Chris Moyles Show.
"I miss the old Noel, who was a bit of a f**kin' lad and that, and we had a laugh and all that," the singer complained.
"I'm not saying we should be the same person but he seems like he's after something else in life, man, and I don't know what it is. Seems very easily... I don't know, he's not like me."
When Chris asked whether Noel was simply settling down with age, Liam countered: "If that's the case then there's no place for rock and roll in that case. Because I'm not saying he should be like me and he should be going out doing what he's doing, because we all change and I've changed. I've definitely slowed down.
"I'm not saying you should be going out f**king gobbing on people and f**king swearing and shit like that or whatever it is that people think we are, but… I'm more on about the corporate side of it.
"He seems very, he's living in a world of, he's living over there in that world, you know what I mean, and there's no f**king room for Oasis in that world as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather f**king work in McDonald's mate or get hit by a f**king 18-wheeler at 100 miles an hour, than bring my band and put it in that world."
However, Liam was quick to admit that there is one area where he'll never be able to compare to brother Noel.
"I'm definitely not on his level [as a writer]," Liam said. "He's a far better songwriter than me, because he's been doing it for years.
"But I'm nowhere near. I'm not on his level, he's on a different level when it comes to songwriting, but as a singer, that's my gig man."
