Liam Gallagher On His Love For 'The Verve'

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about one of his favourite bands The Verve, he said that he loved them and that they don't make bands like them anymore.

"The first time I saw The Verve was in Manchester, at the Hop & Grape or somewhere like that. They were fucking heavy in the early days. I loved touring with them with Oasis. Whereas we were a bit more punky, they were out there: more a jam thing. I just remember Ashcroft having his socks and shoes off and all that. I saw Richard recently, we were both doing a gig in Finland: he was on fire. His voice has got really gnarly. and he was on his hands and knees, good energy about him".

He added "A lot of people, proper verve heads, didn't like 'Urban Hymns' but I think there's some amazing songs on that. Before they didn't have that 'Blue' is an amazing song, but all the songs on 'Urban Hymns' are great. I remember when it was kicking off for them, we were in America, and hearing about it. It was like. 'What's going on with this? better get back to England and sort this shit out.' But I loved them, I really did. They don't make them like that anymore."

NME Gold: Liam Gallagher is on sale now.

Liam Gallagher Wants Oasis, The Verve And The Stone Roses To Play A Gig Together

Liam Gallagher has revealed that he’s been trying “for years” to book a gig featuring Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Verve, also hinting at “something big” coming next summer.

The former Oasis frontman releases his debut solo album ‘As You Were’ this Friday (October 6), but took to Twitter earlier today (October 4) to tell a fan how he wants the three bands to unite for one big gig. “What a night,” he said, “Some people need to get [off their] high chairs”.

“So many extraordinary people on this planet,” Liam added. “We need to come together, c’mon music is power”.

Gallagher also teased his plans for an event next summer, saying: “Stay tuned but I’m gonna round up the troops for something… all are welcome”.

“Now we have your attention, stay tuned, we are family, Gallagher vibes in the area,” he went on to tweet.

After denying any feud with The Stone Roses earlier this year, Gallagher recently said that he would love to form a supergroup with them and Richard Ashcroft.

“Anyone that would be in a supergroup or that would have anything to do with a supergroup are all solo,” said Gallagher. “There’s far too many solo stars out there for my liking and not enough bands. I’m doing this cause I have to. I’d much prefer to be in a band.”

Liam added: “The ideal ones would be the guys out of The Stone Roses. I think they just split up, so that would be good. [Richard] Ashcroft would be good. There’s a lot of people out there, but the majority of them are all doing their own thing. But, if they want to do one, give us a shout. I’ll do it.”

Liam Gallagher Wants To Team Up With The Stone Roses And Richard Ashcroft

The former Oasis frontman, who's preparing to release his debut solo album next month, also has Richard Ashcroft on his wish list.

Liam Gallagher is keen to collaborate with The Stone Roses.

The 44-year-old singer is set to release his debut solo album titled As You Were on 6 October, but the star has admitted he would "much prefer" to be in a band or partner up with his fellow Mancunians.

Speaking to Consequence Of Sound about his career, he said: "Anyone that would be in a supergroup or that would have anything to do with a supergroup are all solo. There's far too many solo stars out there for my liking and not enough bands. I'm doing this cause I have to. I'd much prefer to be in a band.

Although the Wonderwall singer is open to collaborating with fellow musicians, he won't go through with any partnerships if he isn't singing.

He explained: "But, I'd have to be the singer. I'm down with it, but I'm not going to f**king stand there and do tambourine. I need to be on the f***ing mic, man."

Now Liam has left Oasis following his feud with his brother and fellow band member, Noel, he plans to simply "enjoy" his career and live "in the moment", because he feels time has passed him by.
He added: "But one record at a time, man. That's one thing I've learned over the last 20 years -- to f**king enjoy it and be in the moment. The last couple things, I got caught up in the bubble, and it just passes you by, and you go, 'Well, what the f**k happened there?' So, this time, one record at a time, and I guess we'll see how it goes. You got to live in the now, man, cause it's precious. As you get older, every day is f**kin'... You gotta wear it, you know what I mean? Thinking about the future, f**k that shit.

"I'm feeling good about it, so we'll see what happens at the end of the tour."

Liam Gallagher On Being On F**king Fire, Playing Live, Richard Ashcroft, Noel And More

Below are a few quotes from the October issue of Q, that is on sale in stores and digitally now.

On his current form.

“I’m on fire at the moment – on fucking fire!”

On his new album 'As You Were'.

“Now I’ve got the whole world ‘As you were’-ing me,” he enthuses. “Everyone’s saying it – people in China going, ‘Az yew waah!’”

“It’s worth shouting about,” he says, “there’s some proper tunes on there. At the gigs everyone’s been buzzing off the new stuff. We did one with Richard Ashcroft, and he was going, ‘What’s that tune you played at the end, man?’ It was You Better Run.

He goes, ‘It sounded like fucking gang music, like the Hell’s Angels booting the door open.’

There’s a couple of odd ones, too, and that’s the beauty of writing with people.”

On playing live and returning back to music.

“It’s been good to be back at work,” he says, “singing songs to the people, who’re bored out of their fucking minds. It feels like there’s a new vibe there, so maybe the break’s done everyone good. Maybe they’ve realised how shit it is without me.”

On Noel releasing a album a few weeks after his.

“It’s like we’ve come full circle,” he concludes. “We’ve slagged off every single fucking band in the universe, and now me and him are going head to head. I’m sure his record is gonna be great, man, but I feel double proud of mine, really confident. I do exactly what it says on the tin. I’m here to give the people what they want.”

Richard Ashcroft On Liam Gallagher's Cameo On The Verve‘s ‘Urban Hymns’

Richard Ashcroft has spoken out about Liam Gallagher‘s ‘secret cameo’ on The Verve‘s classic album, ‘Urban Hymns’.

It has long been known that the former Oasis frontman leant backing vocals on the track ‘Come On’, but there has also been a mystery surrounding what exactly it is that he sings. Now, Ashcroft has opened up about the album’s various jokes and mysteries.

“I mean there’s lots of jokes within the album,” Ashcroft told BBC 6 Music. “Liam Gallagher is on the last track ‘Come On’. I don’t think anyone knows this, but if you concentrate you can hear some demented guy screaming ‘come on’. I imagine everyone thinks that’s me, but I remember him doing it.

“He arrived at the studio with the tape of a song he’d just done with [Stone Roses’ guitarist] John Squire. He proceeded, as he does, to play it 15 times in a row in the studio. I played him ‘Bittersweet [Symphony]’, then I said ‘we’re doing ‘Come On’ now, you gotta be on it. He went into this booth with someone else, and he was going ballistic at the end of it – smashing the tambourine against the side of the vocal booth, screaming.”

The Verve will be celebrating 20 years of ‘Urban Hymns’ with a deluxe reissue on September 1.

Richard Ashcroft On Liam And Noel Gallagher

Richard Ashcroft has been watching his close friend Liam’s Gallagher’s recent re-emergence with great interest. He believes, the music industry desperately needs a good blast of that infamous Gallagher swagger.

He told the Manchester Evening News “The music industry wants safe rock stars, people who are totally homogenised,” he rants. “And Liam’s the opposite of that. I remember back in the day, when I first met Liam, I thought 'Wow, I can’t wait for this guy to do his first Radio 1 interview!’

"Everything seems so synthetic right now. I think the public are yearning for something real. That’s why Liam sticks out so much.”

He was also asked as a friend of both brothers does he feel a real sadness at their acrimonious – and very public - falling out?

He said “It’s a family affair,” he reasons. “That’s just life. Not many people have families where everything is smooth. For now, the fans have got two great solo careers to enjoy. But yeah, it would be nice if they did get back together. Let’s just hope they don’t burn all their bridges before that happens.”

Noel Gallagher On Oasis' 'Wonderwall', Earrings, Tattoos, Leather Trousers And More

Noel Gallagher has said he does not "particularly like" Oasis song Wonderwall despite its enduring popularity and global appeal.

Gallagher penned the song, which was released in 1995 and has gone on to be remembered as a defining song of the 1990s and is considered one of the now-defunct rock band's best tracks.

The musician told Absolute Radio's Andy Bush that he always thinks the greatest song he has ever written is "the next one".

He added: "Wonderwall has become a worldwide hit, and I will get stopped all over the world, in any city you care to name, and people will sing Wonderwall.

"I don't particularly like that song - I think Cigarettes And Alcohol is a far superior song."

Gallagher said he struggles to understand why the group's second album, (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - on which Wonderwall appears - was more successful than their first record, Definitely Maybe.

"And for the life of me I still can't work out why Morning Glory would have sold 20-odd million, and Definitely Maybe only, like, five or six," he said.

Wonderwall, on which his brother and former Oasis co-star Liam sang lead vocals, has been named the greatest British song in various different radio station polls over the years.

It reached number one in several countries, including Australia, Canada and Spain, although it only peaked at number two in the UK charts, and spawned several cover versions.

Ahead of turning 50 next week, Gallagher said he is not currently going through a midlife crisis because he is "not that kind of person" and is refraining from the stereotypical signs of such a moment.

He said: "Not as yet. No earrings, no tattoos, no leather trousers.

"I'm not that kind of person, I've never owned a licence, like a driver's licence. Maybe I'd be buying a quarter million-pound motor this morning, if I had a licence and could be bothered learning to drive, or even a motorbike.

"I've never dyed my hair."

The High Flying Birds frontman said there are "no rock stars any more" in the charts, and that he thinks the music industry has become too much of a business.

"I have sat down and thought, if the rate of your share price depends on people like Bobby Gillespie, Liam and Richard Ashcroft, wouldn't you rather it rest on the reputation of Chris Martin and Ed Sheeran, d'you know what I mean?" he said.

"So, the people in the bands, the outlaws, people who came from council estates, have been marginalised now by the music business, because it's become more of a business.

"Chris is a very good friend of mine, but he is a very nice boy."

The full interview with Noel Gallagher will air on Absolute Radio at 8pm on Monday May 29.

Is Richard Ashcroft Helping Liam Gallagher Assemble His Live Band?

A source has told Radio X's Gordon Smart that Mr. Ashcroft has played an important role in Liam's new band.

Richard Ashcroft has helped Liam Gallagher put his new band together. Speaking with Radio X's Gordon Smart, a source has revealed that The Verve frontman was highly involved with putting together musicians for Liam's new solo project.

Ashcroft has previously said he plans on performing with Liam across the summer. Asked whose offer he would accept if both Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher asked, Ashcroft replied to Q magazine:  "I would have to politely tell them both that I had something else on and stay at home.

"I played a show with Noel a few months ago and I'm playing with Liam later in the year."

A source has also revealed to Radio X what tracks Liam Gallagher plans to perform live, which include Whatever, D'You Know What I Mean, My Big Mouth and ballad Don't Go Away. Plus, we can expect Beady Eye's Flick of the Finger and The World's Not Set In Stone.

It looks like Liam's live return is going to be something very special indeed. Although no UK live dates have been announced yet, the Oasis legend has confirmed shows at Norway's Bergenfest, Serbia's Exit Festival, Lollapolooza Paris and Spain's Benicassim Festival.

The former Oasis frontman has yet to announce a release date for the album, but we do know that he's steering clear of stadium rock, and instead focusing on a more acoustic sound. Take a look at What We Can Expect From Liam Gallagher's Solo Album now.

Liam Gallagher To Play A Concert With Richard Ashcroft Later This Year

The former Oasis frontman is set to launch his solo career this year, and his close friend and fellow rocker has let slip that they will be performing live together at some point in 2017.

Asked whose offer he would accept if both Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher - his former bandmate who he has barely spoken to since Oasis ended in 2009 - Richard said: "I would have to politely tell them both that I had something else on and stay at home.

"I played a show with Noel a few months ago and I'm playing with Liam later in the year."

Richard - who became pals with Liam when he was fronting fellow British band The Verve, with the two acts regularly touring together in the 90s - won't be giving Liam any advice on going it alone, but thinks his return to music will be welcomed as there are few people as outspoken as the 'Songbird' singer.

The 'Lucky Man' singer told Q magazine: "I wouldn't be daft enough to give Liam any advice on going solo. He can just be himself and do what he loves and people will connect to it. We miss those characters, these people with an opinion. Most people just don't [give an opinion] unless they believe they're getting some sort of PC credit. Then they're out there, appeal after appeal, holding babies and making everyone feel really guilty and miserable around Christmas."

To date, 44-year-old Liam's only announced solo show is at Bergenfest in Norway in June, but Richard, 45, is not one of the artists currently named on the bill.

Richard inspired Oasis' track 'Cast No Shadow' from their seminal 1995 album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' but he admits he has no idea what Noel, 49, meant by the lyrics.

He said: "I think it's one of the best tunes Noel's ever written as well.

"It's a great honor to be a part of that and then when the album exploded like that it was just great. I was buzzing. I think it was almost an afterthought [for Noel] but there were so many gags at the time because I was so thin, 'Is it because he's so thin that he casts no shadow, is that what it's about?'

"I did say to him, 'Am I a vampire? What are you trying to say, man?'"

Liam Gallagher On Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown, Lee Mavers And Shaun Ryder

Liam Gallagher gave his opinion on the frontmen from other British bands to Radio X in a recent interview.

He said: "Of our time, Richard Ashcroft is pretty cool. I like him, I love him. Obviously Ian Brown is f***ing majestic. Lee Mavers is f***ing beautiful and Shaun Ryder is just mega. So there are lots and lots of f***ing great frontmen."

Liam Gallagher On Noel, Oasis, Jose Mourinho, Richard Ashcroft And More

Oasis legend Liam Gallagher has given fans a rare insight into his career, life and mind during a hilarious Q&A session.

Chatting to Radio X’s Johnny Vaughan in front of an intimate audience at the Etihad Stadium, the home of his beloved Manchester City, Liam was on outspoken top form as he explained why he really isn't a proper Manc and gave his thoughts on United boss Jose Mourinho, the scary clown craze, sounding like John Lennon, his favourite cheese (Cheddar), wearing leopard print Ugg slippers and why Oasis isn't getting back together.

Quaffing Taittinger champagne, he also described two of his most rock and roll moments - doing the loop the loop in a private jet over the Golden Gate Bridge and heckling film star Hugh Grant in front of his ex girlfriend Liz Hurley in Los Angeles.

Seated on a plush brown leather sofa, Burnage's finest was joined by Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs for the Q&A in front an audience of just 200 people, in aid of the Make Some Noise campaign for disadvantaged youngsters by Radio X owners Global.

Fans paid £150 to join the Manchester music icon in the aptly named Legends Lounge.

Earlier this month the rocker flew in to Manchester for a premiere in London for a special screening of the documentary film Supersonic.

Here are some of the highlights of the Radio X Q&A:

On Jose Mourinho (who he described as a "little ****")

"He already looks like it's the end of the season."

Brother Noel and why Oasis isn't getting back together.

"For someone who washed his hands of it he's the one banging on about it.

"I'm ready to go but our kid bangs on like I've stabbed his cat or summat. The thing is he wants to be a solo star. The reason why the band isn't back together is because Noel needs to be surrounded by yes men and I ain't one.

"People need to stop asking him when the band is getting back together. He'll get bored so stop asking him."

The scary clown craze.

"I think they're alright man. I don't mind 'em. I like a clown. Some of them put a lot of effort in."

On THAT scene in Supersonic when the band performed badly because of crystal meth.

"I enjoyed myself. That **** happened a lot."

Brotherly love.

"I remember being drunk as a 15-year-old. I came in at 11pm, couldn't find the lights so ****** all over his stereo."

Singing style.

"I sound like John Lennon. I get more power from not holding the microphone."

The longest he has ever stayed up for.

"The 90s"

Favourite footwear.

"I've got Uggs. They're leopard print and they're the best ******* slippers, slippers when you want to get locked out of the door."

On not being a proper Manc

"I wouldn't say I'm a Manc. I've lived in London 20 years. I'm a universal dream."

The best band frontman, apart from himself of course.

"Richard Ashcroft is pretty cool and Ian Brown is fantastic. And Shaun Ryder is mega."

Being banned by Cathay Pacific flights over a row about a scone.

"I woke up and everyone was eating a scone. I didn't have a scone or a pickaxe."

Richard Ashcroft On Working With Noel Gallagher And His Friendship With Liam

In an exclusive interview with Richard Ashcroft, we asked him about a future collaboration with former Oasis guitarist, Noel Gallagher.

I told Richard Ashcroft  "I did an interview with Noel Gallagher a few months ago and he said "it would be great to collaborate with you because you have a great voice and he would love to have you sing a few songs"  so when asked if the idea of  collaborating with Noel Gallagher ever crossed his mind, Ashcroft said.

"I think me and Noel could do something really good but I've said before in England I also love his brother very much and you don't want to be the guy who is between the brothers and that's what I am like. We are like family really because we have a lot of connections in our past from our music. Liam and I appreciate each other's role as lead singers in bands and losing out and also fame and everything. I have a lot of  love for Liam as well" and went on to add " I would be doing something with Noel if I felt Liam was happy in his musical life as well. I am not Noel's and I am not Liam's brother. I am Liam's friend."

The full interview will be published soon on www.kulbritania.com.

Richard Ashcroft Encourages Liam Gallager To Make A Solo Album And More

Richard Ashcroft, the frontman of 'The Verve', has told 5 Live that he can't accept Noel Gallagher's offer to work on an album together.

Speaking to Afternoon Edition's Sarah Brett, he said it would "be a sensational record", but added that he had "a deep respect and love for his brother and I think it'd upset Liam a lot."

He didn't, though, rule out working with Noel at some point further down the road, and he encouraged Liam to release his own solo album. Richard's latest album, These People, is released this week.
