Former Britpop rivals won Music Moment Of The Year for Teenage Cancer Trust duet at NME Awards 2014 (February 26)

Damon Albarn, who collected the Award For Innovation at the NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas last night (February 26), has said that he would "love" to collaborate with Noel Gallagher in the future.

Albarn and Gallagher were given the Music Moment Of The Year prize for performing together at a Teenage Cancer Trust show in May of last year. The Blur singer also later admitted that the band had written 15 new songs for a new album, but said they won't see the light of day for years.

Albarn also was on hand at last night's ceremony to present Beatles legend Paul McCartney with the Songwriter's Songwriter Award, while other big winners included Blondie, who were the recipients of this year's Godlike Genius title, and Arctic Monkeys, who took home five gongs.

Noel Gallagher's New Album Has The Spirit Of Oasis' Definitely Maybe

Noel Gallagher is recording a new album which has the spirit of Oasis' debut album, according to Gallagher's long-term associate Mark Coyle.

Coyle, who co-produced Oasis' debut album 'Definitely Maybe', told NME he heard demos for Gallagher's new album earlier this month (February) following recording sessions Gallagher made in New York.

"Noel's new album is fucking great," said Coyle."It reminds me in some respects of the spirit of 'Definitely Maybe', because it’s so obviously exciting. That boy is from a different planet, and even the fans won't believe how utterly amazing it is."

Coyle, a friend of Gallagher’s since they were both in Inspiral Carpets' road crew in the early '90s, said Gallagher had written between 50 to 60 songs for the new album. "He’s not exactly struggling for an 11th song to complete the album," said Coyle. "It's pouring out of him and he’s currently whittling it all down into an album. The new record will be seismic. It's so explosive that, on the day it comes out, Virgin Trains won’t be able to cope with all the people trying to flee the chaos."

Coyle talks about the 20th anniversary edition of 'Definitely Maybe' in the new issue of NME, which is on newsstands from today (February 26) and available digitally. He spent six months going through demos and live recordings for the extra tracks on the anniversary release's Special Edition.

Coyle is currently overseeing an expanded version of former Shack singer Michael Head’s 1997 album 'The Magical World Of The Strands', the sole album by Michael Head And The Strands, which Coyle produced. He is also planning more shows with his band Tailgunner, who released a self-titled album featuring Gallagher on drums in 2000. "I’ve sacked Noel as our drummer," said Coyle. "OK, so really he’s too busy."

Earlier today it was announced that Oasis's classic 1994 debut album 'Definitely Maybe' will be reissued to mark its 20th anniversary this May.

A remastered version of the Manchester band's LP will be released on May 19 and will include rare and unreleased recordings. The reissue is the first in the new Chasing The Sun series from Big Brother Recordings, with Oasis' follow-up albums 'What's The Story (Morning Glory)?' and 'Be Here Now' to also be reissued later this year.

Noel Gallagher Is Remastering Oasis' Back Catalogue For Release Later This Year

A whopping £3 million each can’t persuade the warring Gallagher brothers to reform Oasis for a series of gigs this summer, I can reveal.

Instead, fans of the rockers will have to make do with Noel Gallagher remastering the band’s back catalogue.

‘Noel has been planning to do this for a while and he thought it would  be perfect to release it this year, as it’s the 20th anniversary of the band’s first single,’ says a friend of the singer-songwriter.

When I caught up with Noel, 46, at a Warner Music party after the Brits, the star admitted: ‘I still love my Oasis music and I still play it.’

However, sources say that Noel has snubbed a huge deal to play three gigs alongside his brother Liam in Finsbury Park, North London, this summer that would have netted them around £3 million each.

The pair reportedly turned down £20 million to do a world tour last year that would have included a return to Knebworth for a repeat of their legendary 1996 shows.

David Bowie has won the Best British Male prize at this year's Brit Awards - but he was way to cool to turn up, sending Kate Moss in his place.

As his "representative on earth" Kate walked to the stage looking cooler than cool wearing original Bowie's original Ziggy Stardust costume - first worn by the icon at his 1972 Rainbow Concert.

Presenting the award, Noel Gallagher, looking particularly glam in his jeans and trademark jacket, told the audience: "You didn't think he would actually be here? He is too cool for this s**t".

Noel Gallagher Gets Hero's Reception After Blues Defeat To Barcelona

His beloved Manchester City may have lost, but Noel Gallagher at least got a hero's reception after he left the Etihad Stadium last night.

His beloved Manchester City may have lost to Barcelona, but at least rock ‘n’ roll star Noel Gallagher could bask in a hero’s reception at the Etihad Stadium.

For as former Oasis star Noel left the stadium after that disappointing 2-0 defeat to Barcelona, he was mobbed by a Wonderwall of fans.

Despite results not going the Blues way, Noel clearly didn’t look back in anger, and happily signed autographs for fans as he headed to his driver who whisked him away from Eastlands.

Burnage-born Noel headed back to home turf just a day after it was revealed he has been approached by filmmakers wanting to make a movie of the Oasis story.

It would certainly be filled with plenty of drama - telling the story of how Noel and brother Liam created one of the world’s biggest bands, only for their bitter brotherly wars to bring Oasis to an end in 2009.

Noel has said he would like Michael Fassbender to play him in the movie of his life, although no word as to which star might play Liam.

Speaking at the Baftas he said: ‘People have seriously approached me about that [film]. It’s something that’s very strange but very tempting.’

‘If it means I get to come here and watch Brad Pitt eat a bit of salmon then I’ll make a film a year if I can.’

I'll Take Oasis Fan Messi Out And Nobble Him! Says Noel Gallagher

It's the match that has got everyone in football talking - and Noel Gallagher is no different.

The former Oasis star and life-long Manchester City fan cannot wait for the Champions League clash with Barcelona at the Etihad Stadium.

He joined the Sports Bar to look ahead to Tuesday night's clash and admits that, while he obviously wants City to win, he would be delighted with a 0-0 draw on home soil.

As he says, 'as long as the tie is still alive when I go to Barcelona in three weeks' time, I'll be happy'.

But he does have a secret weapon up his sleeve, admitting he might try to tempt Oasis fan Lionel Messi out after the game... so he can nobble him!

Another On This Day In Oasis History...

"Don't Go Away" is a song by English rock band Oasis from their third album, Be Here Now (1997), written by the band's lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. The song was released as a single only in Japan on February 19th 1998, peaking at number 48 on the Oricon chart. It was also a success in the United States, where it hit #5 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in late 1997.

History

In a 1997 interview promoting Be Here Now, Noel Gallagher had the following to say about the song: "It's a very sad song about not wanting to lose someone you're close to. The middle eight I made up on the spot -- I never had that lyric until the day we recorded it: 'Me and you, what's going on?/ All we seem to know is how to show/ The feelings that are wrong.' It's after a row. Quite bleak."

"We put Burt Bacharach horns on because he was the master of break-up songs. I did all the string arrangements. I tried to keep them as simple as possible. I like the way Marc Bolan used them on Children Of The Revolution. People do remember string parts as separate hooklines, you know. You just don't want to use them slushily."

Artwork

The cover of the single features the old Liverpool Speke Airport building. The airport is famous as the scene at which thousands of hysterical fans greeted The Beatles on their return to Liverpool at the height of Beatlemania. Derelict at the time, it has now been turned into an exclusive hotel.

B-sides

The live version of "Cigarettes & Alcohol" was recorded 14 December 1997 at the G-MEX Exhibition Centre in Oasis' home town of Manchester.

"Sad Song" originally appeared as a bonus track on the vinyl release of the first Oasis album, Definitely Maybe. It also appeared on the Japanese CD edition of Definitely Maybe.

The 'Warchild' version of "Fade Away" is from the 'HELP' album recorded in September 1995. It features Noel on vocals, and guests Johnny Depp on guitar, Kate Moss on tambourine and Liam and Lisa Moorish on backing vocals.

All proceeds from that track went to Warchild Charities.

Track listing

"Don't Go Away" - 4:43
"Cigarettes & Alcohol" (Live from GMEX, Manchester, December 14, 1997) - 4:58

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Don't Look Back in Anger" is a song by the British rock band Oasis, written by the band's guitarist, Noel Gallagher. Released as the fourth single from their hit second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, on February 19th 1996.

The song became the band's second single to reach #1 in the United Kingdom charts, where it also went platinum. "Don't Look Back in Anger" was also the first Oasis single to feature Noel on lead vocals instead of his brother, Liam Gallagher. The title is perhaps a play on the song "Look Back in Anger", from David Bowie's Lodger album or on the play, Look Back in Anger by John Osborne, from which Bowie's song took inspiration.

Music video

The video for the song, directed by Nigel Dick, features Patrick Macnee, the actor who played John Steed in the 1960s television series The Avengers, apparently a favourite of the band. While filming the video, drummer Alan White met future wife Liz Atkins. They were married 13 August 1997 at Studley Priory Hotel, Oxfordshire but later divorced. Macnee has no recollection of the filming of the video.

History

Noel said of the song, "[It] reminds me of a cross between All the Young Dudes and summat the Beatles might've done." Of the character "Sally" referred to in the song he commented, "I don't actually know anybody called Sally. It's just a word that fitted, y'know, might as well throw a girl's name in there. It's gotta guarantee somebody a shag off a bird called Sally, hasn't it?". Noel claims that the character "Lyla", from Oasis' 2005 single is the sister of Sally. In the interview on the DVD released with the special edition of Stop the Clocks, Noel also revealed that a girl approached him and asked him if Sally was the same girl as in The Stone Roses' track "Sally Cinnamon". Noel replied that he'd never thought of that, but thought it was good anyway.

Noel admits that certain lines from the song are lifted from John Lennon: "I got this tape in the United States that had apparently been burgled from the Dakota Hotel and someone had found these cassettes. Lennon was starting to record his memoirs on tape. He's going on about 'trying to start a revolution from me bed, because they said the brains I had went to my head.' I thought 'Thank you, I'll take that'!" "Revolution from me bed" most likely refers to Lennon's infamous bed-ins in 1969, both in the quote and in the song. The piano during the intro of the song highly resembles Lennon's "Imagine". Like many other popular songs, the chord progression for both the verse and the chorus are based on the classical piece Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel. The songs only differ slightly at the end of each phrase. Gallagher also admits that he was under the influence of substances when he wrote the song, and to this day he claims he does not know what it means.

The song has become a favourite at Oasis' live performances. Noel encourages the crowd to sing along and often keeps quiet during the chorus, allowing the fans instead to sing along while he focuses on his guitar playing. The volume of crowd noise that usually descends on the chorus at concerts is easily audible on the rendition of "Don't Look Back in Anger" on Familiar to Millions. During the Dig Out Your Soul Tour the song has been played acoustically at a slower rate by Noel. Which surprised some fans, but it is still sung by all the fans.

In a 2006 radio interview, Liam Gallagher said that it was he who came up with the line "so Sally can wait" as Noel was struggling with that particular line at the time. Noel confirms this on the bonus DVD, entitled Lock the Box, released with the Stop the Clocks retrospective album. In the interview with Colin Murray, Noel admits, "I was doing it in the sound check and the so Sally bit, I wasn't singing that...and he [Liam] says, 'Are you singing so Sally can wait?' and I said, 'No.' and he said, 'Well you should do.'"

Noel was so excited of the potential of the song when he first wrote it, he used an acoustic set to perform a work-in progress version, without the second verse and a few other slight lyrical differences to the finished version, at an Oasis concert at the Sheffield Arena on April 22, 1995, saying before playing that he'd only written it the previous Tuesday (April 18, 1995) and that he didn't even have a title for it.

Noel Gallagher's Has Been Approached To Make A Movie About Oasis

Noel Gallagher has been approached by a studio to make a film about Oasis.

The band's former guitarist - who has barely spoken to brother Liam since their group split in 2009 - has revealed that he is considering the offer.

Speaking at The Weinstein Company BAFTA after party on Sunday (16.02.14), he told The Sun newspaper: ''People have seriously approached me about that.

''It's something that's very strange but very tempting.

''If it means I get to come here and watch Brad Pitt eat a bit of salmon then I'll make a film a year if I can.''

The 46-year-old musician, who attended the event at London's Rosewood Hotel with his wife Sara, wants actor Michael Fassbender to take the lead role in the new film but didn't specify whether he would want the star to play himself or brother Liam, 41.

The 'Wonderwall' hitmaker claims the working title for the film is '20 Years A Geezer'.

Although he complained about the music at the Weinstein party, calling it ''utter s***e'', Noel had fun rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars.

He was seen chatting to Bradley Cooper during dinner at The Grosvenor House Hotel before the awards and actress Emma Thompson gave him a huge hug.

Meanwhile, Liam is set to hold castings in Los Angeles for a new Beatles film and has convinced Michael Winterbottom to direct the movie about the band's company Apple Corps and the break-up of the group.

Review: Beady Eye In Rome

Review: Beady Eye at Rome's Orion Club on 16 February

“Everyone’ll be calling their kids Beady Eye by the end of the year”, Liam Gallagher, 25 January 2011.

While I doubt (m)any children have been christened “Beady Eye" in the last few years, the now not-so-new project headed by rock's last true anti-hero Liam Gallagher has certainly become a recognisable name, and for good reason.

Straight off a massive Aussie summer festival tour and with another steady four or five months of touring ahead of them, the Beady Eye lads were in top form in Rome, both musically and behaviourally… which one is never sure of when attending a gig involving a Gallagher brother.

Emitting ageing mod cool in a perfectly pressed cream duffel coat and trademark sunglasses, Gallagher shared supportive nods with football scarf-wielding crowd members, signed autographs in vocal breaks, gracefully dodged a bottle of water and even reacted with calm and good humour to a blackout shortly into one of their big numbers, Shine a Light. As techies rushed to resolve the issue, the crowd let rip a couple of football chants, followed by another which seemed to be "Paga la Luce." When the band returned to the stage Gallagher seemed up-to-date on how things work here in Italy, quipping “I’ve got a feelin' it’s gonna be a long night, haven’t got anywhere else to go have ya?”

Opening with Four Letter Word, the second promotional single from their debut album Different Gear, Still Speeding, and ending with a cover of the Rolling Stones’ Gimme Shelter, Beady Eye performed a blistering hour-and-a-half set that included tracks from both album releases including Flick of the Finger, Start Anew, current single Soul Love, and also Wonderwall and Cigarettes and Alcohol by Oasis.

Love him or loathe him, don’t pretend you’re not at least mildly interested in what "Gallagherism" may fall out of the man's mouth next. Five years in and ever evolving, the day for comparisons should be over. No Beady Eye are not Oasis, but they’ve got chops.
