Noel Gallagher On Johnny Marr
"The second time I ever met him, we drove to this guitar shop in Doncaster because he'd been asking were I got my guitars from. He picked me up in this big Mercedes with Owen Morris - who would go on to produce the big Oasis albums - and he was playing 'Exodus' by Bob Marley And The Wailers. He kept rewinding it and going on about the groove. He was so knowledgeable, so enthusiastic, that every time I hear that song now, it reminds me of driving to Doncaster in the rain with him. He was always about the music. I was hanging out with him before Oasis took off, and I don't think we spoke about anything he'd ever done: all he wanted to talk about was this band Oasis and what was going to happen with us. I've never met a guy as humble as him. He only ever played on one Oasis track ['(Probably) All In My Mind' from 2002's 'Heathen Chemistry'], and as irony would have it, it was probably the shittiest track I ever wrote.
Taken from this week's NME that includes as interview with Marr himself where he reflects on his entire career, looks to the future, has a pop at the government and settles the score on The Smiths reunion rumours, for now...

Noel Gallagher

After their shock 3-1 loss to Southampton at the weekend, celebrity Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher conceded that the club had no chance of retaining their Premier League title.
The Oasis front man blamed a lack of belief from the players as the reason they fell 12 points behind leaders and neighbours Manchester United.
“The title race was over a couple of weeks ago. I can’t remember ever seeing a great team like we've got, playing as badly as that.’ said the musician, who has followed City for 30 years.
“It’s not a case of them getting beat, but it was the way they got beat. It’s the first time in my life I’ve ever been speechless!”

Kimberley Walsh has a big fan in Noel Gallagher.
The 31-year-old singer was told by the former Oasis guitarist that she is his favourite member of Girls Aloud when the rocker tried to book the girl group for the upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust charity concerts.
Noel couldn't get the five-piece - also comprised of Sarah Harding, Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts - to play because the date clashed with their reunion tour but he did tell Kimberley she was the best member.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, she said: 'The Girls Aloud tour is around the same time so we couldn't make it work (to play). I'm gutted that we can't do it.
'Noel called me out of the blue. It's great that he's involved and is arranging it. It was exciting to speak to him. I was like, 'Really?' He said I was his favourite (Girls Aloud member) and Sarah wasn't very happy about that.
Kimberley has really enjoyed hooking up with the girls again following their self-imposed hiatus and insists everyone has been having fun as they prepare to kick-off their 'Ten - The Hits Tour'.
The 31-year-old star - who has just released a solo album 'Centre Stage' - said: 'It's always fun with the girls. We all know our stuff, we are just perfecting it, getting it to the best level. There is a lot of banter ... We have a choreographer and creative director who have sorted the stage set and visuals. We're happy with that.
Then we get into outfits and dance moves. And we have to try to remember all the words to the songs.'

Sarah Harding
Sarah Harding was once known as the wild one of Girls Aloud – but last night she declared: “I’m not that girl any more.”
After battling her demons, the blonde has spent the past year rebuilding her life.
In her first in-depth interview since she checked in to rehab, Sarah tells how she’s in a new relationship with music producer DJMRK1, and says she is at her happiest simply strolling around her country pad in Buckinghamshire.
She also revealed the unlikely inspiration behind her transformation from caner to country girl — her ex-hellraising heroes Robbie Williams and Liam Gallagher.
Sarah, 31, said: “I’ve been through the s******t couple of years of my life but I want people to know me for the girl I am today.
“I’m in the happiest place ever in my life, and the past is in the past.”
Sarah’s partying got out of hand because she tried to live up to her rock ’n’ roll image as “the Liam Gallagher of Girls Aloud”.
But now 40-year-old Liam has settled into domestic bliss, Sarah is convinced that she too can leave her past behind.
She said: “I grew up absolutely obsessed with Oasis and Blur and all the bad boys.
“I used to think I was like Liam and in the end, it kind of became who I was.
“At one point, people thought I was the Liam Gallagher of the band because I’m more of a rock chick and I went out more than my friends. But I’ve grown up now.”
Sarah also identifies with the way Robbie Williams, 38, has gone from wildman to happily married dad.
She said: “I can really, really relate to Robbie — we’re very similar characters.
“Now he’s all settled and married with a baby, I’m just really happy for him. He’s a really nice guy.”
Despite her admiration for the way Liam and Robbie have settled down, Sarah says she wants to focus on her career before considering having a child.
She added: “I don’t know about kids just yet — although I am at that age. I’ve just got so many more boxes I want to tick before that.”
A big part of Sarah’s comeback is the Girls Aloud ten-year reunion tour — which kicks off on February 21.
When she’s not rehearsing, Sarah is busy grafting on solo material and adding more acting roles to her CV.

Oasis
Richard Ashcroft
Noel Gallagher will perform a set ‘packed’ with Oasis classics in Dubai next month.
The iconic guitarist and singer will make his UAE debut on Sandance Beach on Friday March 15 – and promoters have told the crowd to expect a set brimming with Oasis hits.
Former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft will also perform at the one-off gig, which is dubbed as being ‘presented by Sandance’, rather than a full Sandance festival.
Gallagher will be backed onstage by his current band the High Flying Birds, whose eponymous debut album was released to critical acclaim in 2011.
However the 45-year-old rocker is expected to relieve his ’90s heyday when he plays in Dubai. The gig’s promoters have seen a sample of Gallagher’s 90-minute set and are expecting ‘around 75 percent’ of the tunes to be drawn from Oasis’ back catalogue, the bulk of which was written exclusively by Gallagher.
‘This is going to be really special,’ a source said, ‘he’s not promoting an album or doing a tour this year, it’s just a one-off show of Oasis classics.’
Ashcroft will support Gallagher playing solo acoustic at the gig, relieving the memorable set he performed at the third Sandance event in October 2011.

When Albums Ruled The World
Documentary showing how the long-playing album changed popular music for ever between the mid 1960s and the late 1970s by allowing artists to express themselves as never before.
The magic of the long-playing vinyl album is lovingly profiled as we make tracks back to its golden age, from the mid-1960s through the 1970s. Packaged in sleeves that were art in themselves, the LP was a playground for musicians to think outside the grooves and helped shape the soundtrack of a generation, which produced Bob Dylan, The Doors and The Beatles. Noel Gallagher and Mike Oldfield are among those singing the LP’s praises.

Liam Gallagher tells teen fan: 'You'll like the new Beady Eye album if you're into drugs'
Frontman also says he has finished mixing new Beady Eye album
Liam Gallagher has been filmed telling a teenage fan that the new Beady Eye album is, "like rock 'n' roll, but fired out into space".
Two teenage fans, Ryan Butterworth and Elliot Cole, ran into Gallagher outside the Forester's Arms in Brockenhurst this week, and have uploaded their impromptu interview to YouTube – scroll down to watch. Chatting to Butterworth about the forthcoming second album from Beady Eye, Gallagher says: "It's rock 'n' roll but it's fired out into space. If you're into drugs you'll like it. it's pretty druggy."
Liam also goes on to say that Beady Eye will be touring soon and that they are currently getting plans for lives shows together. "We'll be out in a few months. We're playing festivals, bar mitzvahs. We've got to make it right this time, last time was a bit fucking stupid." When camera man Cole asks about the possibility of Beady Eye playing Reading Festival, Liam responds: "We're not doing that fucking thing!"
Speaking to NME about his chance encounter with Gallagher, Ryan Butterworth described the Beady Eye frontman as "genuinely the nicest man I have ever met".
Liam was in Brockenhurst – where Butterworth is a college student – at a local recording studio where, Butterworth reports, he said he had just finished mixing Beady Eye's new album.
"He was happy to be filmed – he didn't mention it – and he was happy to look at the camera. He was really down to earth and I stayed with him for about two hours drinking with him. [I was] asking lots of questions he said he was in the area as he just finished mixing the new album around the corner."
For Butterworth, it was a dream come true. "I am a huge Gallagher fan," he says. "I have every record ever. Being a musician there is no one I look up to more in music."
Beady Eye are expected to release their new album later on in 2013. Earlier this year Liam Gallagher said the album "is the LP Oasis should have made after '...Morning Glory.''
