Johnny Marr On The New Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Album

Johnny Marr has spoken about recording a track for Noel Gallagher's new album 'Chasing Yesterday', saying that the record is both "very melodic" and "pretty rocking" too.

Marr appears on the album's closing song 'Ballad Of The Mighty I', which will be the second single.

Speaking in this week's NME, which is on newsstands now and available digitally, Marr details his time spent in the studio with Noel.

He contacted me and said he had a song that he'd be happy for me to play on," Marr says. "I accpeted, gladly, and it was was really good to spend a day playing guitar in a little studio near Chelsea Bridge. When that was done I listened to about eight songs on the album."

Asked how the album sounds, Marr continues: "It's really good. What I heard of it was very melodic, some of it pretty rocking too, and fans are going to really like it. He doesn't do things he doesn't think are great. And his singing is really good on the album."

The Smiths guitarist turned solo singer also suggests that 'Chasing Yesterday' could prove more of a challenge than Gallagher's 2011 debut solo effort. "In some ways it might be more of a challenge than the first, because he's building on a successful solo career, essentially on his own. But he's smart and everyone knows he knows what he's doing."

'Chasing Yesterday' will be released on March 2, 2015. Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher will join Marr onstage at the London date on his UK tour this week, according to a source.

Noel Gallagher To Perform With Johnny Marr In London?

Johnny Marr will be playing one of his biggest solo shows to date this Thursday (23rd Oct) at London's Brixton Academy. In a report from NME, someone close to Marr let slip that Noel Gallagher would be performing on stage with the iconic guitarist.

Could this be true? The two have been close lately. Gallagher recently revealed that Marr would be appearing on his new album Chasing Yesterday on closing track The Ballad Of Mighty I. Speaking on the track, Noel remarked "I have to say, he’s unbelievable. He’s way up there, on another level to the rest of us. The result is a burst of energy that helped make Mighty I one of the best songs I’ve ever written."

Noel Gallagher Declares His ‘Love’ For Roy Keane

Speaking on the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on Today FM this morning, the 47-year-old rocker admitted that he won't be buying a copy of Keane's autobiography 'The Second Half' but has enjoyed his treatment of former manager Alex Ferguson.

"I don’t really read footballers books because they are essentially all telling the same story," he said.

"I’ve liked reading the excerpts from Roy Keane’s book particularly him slagging of (Alex) Ferguson who might be one of the most hateful people I’ve ever come across. I’ve enjoyed that.

"I love Roy Keane. I actually liked him when he was at United but then he signed for Celtic... I’ve never met him and I wouldn’t mind meeting him and shake his hand while standing back a little bit in case he head-butted you."

Gallagher hopes that Keane one day takes over as Manchester United manager but not to see him turn things around at Old Trafford... quite the opposite.

"As a character I think he’s great, I hope one day he takes over United and runs it into the ground... turns it into a supermarket," he added.

Noel Gallagher Responds To Liam's Westlife Jibe

Noel Gallagher has responded to his brother Liam's taunt that he looks like a member of Westlife by saying that he doesn't mind as long as he doesn't look like Louis Walsh.

Back in 2011, Liam told music magazine Q, “Noel said we had a year to come up with a band name and came up with Beady Eye. He had three and came up with the High Flying Turds. I don’t know who dressed him but he looks like something out of Westlife.”

Speaking to Jenny Greene and former Westlife member Nicky Byrne on 2fm earlier today, Noel said: "Our Liam said that? Which member of Westlife? I'm trying to remember all your little faces - as long as it's not Louis Walsh!"

Inevitably, Noel, who releases Chasing Yesterday, the second album with High Flying Birds, next March, was also asked if constant rumours about an Oasis reunion annoy him.

"It annoys me about as much as when I'm introduced to people as Liam, which happens on a regular basis so it's just part of my life now. I just have to answer questions about it every day.

"I was a party the other night and loads of posh people were going, `Liam! How are you doing?' It's a common occurrence but there is no Oasis reunion. It's annoying when some people refer to it as `the Oasis reunion' as if it's some kind of definite thing that's going to happen. It's not on the cards."

Noel added: "It's got nothing to do with my brother. Creatively, I don't think I could take a backward step now. It's got nothing to do with Liam. Me and Liam are well beyond that now. It's not like I wouldn't do it because of our kid, we're on good terms.

"At the minute from where I sit now it's purely a creative thing. I really, really enjoy where I am with my music and where I am with my band and my thing when I take it on tour. I wouldn't be willing to give that up for anything."

However, asked if he'd rather wear a Manchester United shirt or reform Oasis, Noel said: "I'd rather reform Oasis than wear a Man Utd shirt. I wouldn't do that, not even if I was mentally disturbed."

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Lord Don't Slow Me Down" is a song by Oasis. The song was released as a download-only single on October 21, 2007 in promotion of the release of Oasis' rockumentary of the same name, Lord Don't Slow Me Down.

On October 29, the song debuted at number ten in the UK Singles Chart, becoming Oasis' 21st UK top 10. It is also their 21st top ten single in a row. It is also the first single by Oasis not to reach the top 4 since 1994's Cigarettes & Alcohol.

In October 2006 the first part of the song was used in a preview of the band's movie. Written and sung by Noel Gallagher and recorded during the Don't Believe the Truth sessions, Gallagher described it as being "one of the best things, like The Who, The Yardbirds and the Jeff Beck Group combined, and it's got two drum solos on it!" The entire song leaked into the internet just a few days before the video was uploaded on YouTube and the song was played on the radio, on 1 October. The song was a probable track to be included on the band's last album, 2005's Don't Believe The Truth, but was removed from the final track list by Noel Gallagher, as he thought he sang on too many songs on the record. In May 2008 an unreleased studio version with Liam Gallagher on lead vocals was leaked over internet fansites.

This song is included on Dig Out Your Soul bonus CD.

Track Listing

1. "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" - 3:17
2. "The Meaning of Soul" (Live at City of Manchester Stadium '05) - 2:32
3. "Don't Look Back in Anger" (Live at City of Manchester Stadium '05) - 5:38

Celebrity Gogglebox: Sneak Peak Of Noel Gallagher watching Strictly Come Dancing

We could not be more excited about tonight's Celebrity Gogglebox - all in aid of Stand Up to Cancer - and this sneak peek of Noel Gallagher watching Strictly Come Dancing does not disappoint.

Noel - who's sharing a sofa with Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell - seems to warm to Mark Wright's Superman-themed routine... because he's done a similar one himself.

Except Noel wasn't doing it in a studio in Borehamwood - he was at Mick Jagger's house in Mustique. But Kate is there to bring him back to Earth, pointing out: "Not the paso doble though." We're also quite pleased to see that Noel is excellent at choosing snacks, as he has an open packet of pickled onion Monster Munch on the table.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Tour Sells Out In Under 10 Minutes

Tickets for former Oasis frontman's High Flying Birds gigs in London, Manchester and Nottingham sell out in moments.

Noel Gallagher fans have been left disappointed after thousands of tickets for his new tour sold out in less than 10 minutes.

The former Oasis frontman is taking his new band, High Flying Birds, on a European tour in March next year.

Tickets went on sale via Gallagher's website at 9am for the O2 arena in London, Phones 4u arena in Manchester and Capital FM arena in Nottingham.

However, all tickets - starting from about £60 - on the official site appeared to have been snapped up within just minutes.

Fans took to social media to celebrate being among the lucky ones to secure seats for the much-anticipated gigs.

Others expressed their disappointment on Twitter.

Fan Jack Furness said: "Standing tickets for Noel Gallagher sold out within a minute of going on sale."

Another said: "Got up at 8:30 for Noel Gallagher tickets. Sold out everywhere by 9:01... Devastated."

And Adam Ouakli said: "Wow Noel Gallagher tickets just sold out in 2 minutes..."

The tour will coincide with the release of the band's new album Chasing Yesterday, which comes out on March 2.

Speaking about the lead single, Gallagher said earlier this week: "The first single was the last track to be recorded.
"It's called 'In The Heat Of The Moment'. Is it great? Of course it is. What does it mean, it doesn't mean anything."
