Gallery: Liam Gallagher Playing Football With Legendary Players In Italy

Former Oasis star Liam Gallagher is used to playing in front of stadium-sized crowds, but his trademark sweary swagger is not quite suited to a left back role in top-class football.

But for the Italian equivalent of Soccer Aid on Tuesday night, that was exactly where the Definitely, Maybe singer was, tucked in behind legendary Czech Republic winger Pavel Nedved at the Juventus Stadium.

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero and their manager who has led them to Saturday's Champions League final, Massimiliano Allegri, were also part of a side that took on an XI of Italian musicians for charity.

Forming part of a star-studden Wonderwall of players for the pre-match national anthem, Gallagher looked delighted to be taking part alongside Allegri.

But after just 20 minutes the 42-year-old succumbed to The Importance of Being Idle and was substituted.

And Gallagher admitted that he did not quite have the stamina to keep up with the likes of Champions League winners Nedved and Del Piero.

'They have something like this but I never get invited to it,' he said. 'Probably because I’m rubbish. They have a Soccer Aid thing, yeah.'

Noel Gallagher Says One Direction Have Five Years Left

Noel Gallagher believes One Direction only have "five years left".

The 47-year-old star has confessed he can't understand why Zayn Malik chose to quit the band to live a "normal life" when he thinks he'd have been able to do that soon enough anyway.

He said: "I can't understand why he would do it - because they've only got, at most, five years left."

Noel added he thinks Zayn should have stuck it out with his bandmates - Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson - if only to line his pockets for a few more years.

Speaking to James Corden on 'The Late, Late Show', the former Oasis rocker added: "He should just stand at the back, smoke weed, get laid, just pick the cheque up and go home. But he should get himself a good accountant."

The 'Wonderwall' hitmaker's comments come after he said Zayn was "strange" for quitting the band and predicted he won't be the "normal" guy he wants to be in a few years' time.

He said previously: "It's a strange thing for that lad to have done at that age. The greatest quote was - I laughed out loud when I read it, 'I just want to be a normal 22-year-old'. Pfft. Who wants to be a normal 22-year-old?! Hang on a minute. You can be f**king anything that moves and getting paid half a million dollars a week, you f**king idiot. You want to be a normal 22-year-old? Have you met any normal 22-year-olds? They're s**t for brains. What are you talking about, you idiot? God. All those young Japanese girls s***ing me c**k. So shallow and meaningless. I'll say this to you, Zayn, You might have wanted to be a normal 22 year old, but you won't want to be a normal 25 year old!"

Noel's younger brother and former Oasis bandmate Liam Gallagher later jumped to the defence of Zayn and his former bandmates.

He wrote on Twitter: "Hey NG leave those 1d kids alone LG x ... Just coz you have a SAXAPHONE on your new record and you think your all Pink Floyd LG x ... Everybody knows your just another Pr**k in the wall LG x (sic)."

Fist Fights With Liam Were Normal In Oasis Says Noel Gallagher

Punch-ups between Noel and Liam Gallagher were a regular occurrence during Oasis, but Noel claims he dealt the last blow.

The High Flying Birds frontman made the admission on this week's Late Late Show with James Corden.

When quizzed on who would win the most spars, Noel said: “It was pretty even towards the end, but I did leave on a high note."

If anyone is qualified to give advice on when to quit a band it's the 48-year-old guitarist - and he doesn't think Zayn Malik has made a wise choice leaving One Direction.

"I can’t understand why he left because they’ve only got at the most five years left," Noel told James. "He should just stand at the back, smoke week and get laid - but he should get himself a good accountant."

Alex James Hopes Oasis Get Back Together So They Can Support Blur

Blur's Alex James has spoken about the band’s rivalry with Oasis in a new interview, suggesting that the former adversaries could play a gig together in the future.

Last month, Liam Gallagher named Blur's 'Lonesome Street' the "song of the year". Now, Blur’s bassist has said that Damon Albarn and Noel are "quite good friends", adding that he hopes the Gallaghers reunite and tour.

Speaking about the thawing in the two bands' relationship, James said: "Liam's come out and said ‘Lonesome Street’ is his favourite song of the year, God bless him. And Damon and Noel are quite good friends now. So, I think, let's focus on the positives. It's lovely that it's got a happy ending. I hope they get back together. They can support us."

Liam Gallagher Will Be A Guest On TFI Friday With Blur, Roger Daltrey, Mani And More

15 years after Chris Evans' anarchic chat show TFI Friday ended, it's back for one night only on June 12th. Yesterday Evans revealed the line-up and it includes Brit-poppers for all those viewers nostalgic for the series' late 90s heyday: old rivals Blur and Liam Gallagher.

Roger Daltrey, Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Mani and The Lightening Seeds' Ian Broudie will also be making an appearance, Evans confirmed on Twitter.

Yesterday he answered the questions of tweeters eager to know whether pub trickster 'Will' (YES), original writer Danny Baker (YES) and the Freak or Unique segment would also be making a comeback (YES YES YES!), and if Samuel L Jackson was cast in Star Wars because of his appearance on TFI Friday (correct, replied Evans).

The Ocean Colour Scene theme tune will also be heard, and the set crammed with a heckling audience will be "same but different," said Evans. "Bit of an issue. They knocked our old studio down two months ago. D'oh!"

When TFI Friday launched in 1996, it was broadcast live but that changed when Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder swore repeatedly on air (he's been barred from Channel 4 ever since). The time round it will presumably be pre-recorded before its 9pm broadcast.

Evans has been posting countdown videos on YouTube and in the latest Dolly Parton, David Bowie and Hugh Grant are wildly applauded when they braved the enormously popular, defiantly unpredictable show.

Noel Gallagher On Meeting Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong

Noel Gallagher has revealed that he met Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong at a U2 concert recently.

The former Oasis musician attended the Irish band's gig in San Diego earlier this month (May 19), describing the show at the time as a "psychedelic experience". Now, Gallagher has spoken to the You Made It Weird podcast about meeting Armstrong at the show.

"I met Billie Joe the other night," Gallagher said. "I was sitting beside him at a U2 concert in San Diego. He was a very, very nice guy, I've got to say." Gallagher also discussed meeting US talk show host Jimmy Fallon, saying that he seemed "actually interested in music".

Listen to the hour-long podcast in full here.

Noel's brother and former bandmate Liam Gallagher previously said of Billie Joe Armstrong: "Fuck right off. I'm not having him. I just don't like his head."

Meanwhile, Oasis' former manager Alan McGee has stated that he can't imagine a reunion of the Britpop band happening "any time soon".

The group originally split in 2009 with Noel Gallagher citing at the time an inability to work with his brother Liam as the key reason. However, recent tabloid reports first claimed that the brothers had come to "a gentlemen's agreement" to reunite and then suggested that the band would reform without Noel.

Addressing the rumours in a new interview, McGee said: "Liam and Noel are the happiest I've seen them in years, so for that reason I can't see a reunion happening." Despite this, McGee stated that he wouldn't be surprised if Oasis reunited "at some point in the next 20 years". He added: "Who knows what goes on in the heads of the Gallaghers?"
