Noel Gallagher Complains He's Been Cut From Russell Brand Film 'Second Coming'

Noel Gallagher makes some typically acerbic asides as part of his contribution to the forthcoming documentary about his friend, Russell Brand, but now the Flying Birds frontman is complaining that he's been cut from the film.

Noel, who has contributed to 'Russell Brand: Second Coming' following Russell's transformation from Hollywood aspiring film star to London-based activist and author, told Metro earlier this week, "I'm assuming my bit is the best thing in it, which is why they cut it. I won't be going to see it."

However, the High Flying Birds frontman has got it wrong, with his bon mots on his friend's brief marriage to pop star Katy Perry remaining, as he says, remaining very much part of the film. And, as our clip reveals, some of his best lines have not been forgotten...

Noel, who used to appear regularly on Russell's radio show when he was still employed by the BBC, tells a story from when the comedian was freshly married to Katy, and phoned him, asking for advice on what to do if he and his new bride wanted to watch different channels on television.

The film's director Ondi Timoner followed Russell for the best part of two years, as he gave up his Hollywood life in search of something more meaningful, a journey that brought him back to London, to the corridors of Westminster, the streets of East London and into confrontation on 'Newsnight' as he shared his own history with drugs to campaign for decriminalisation, and then spoke about the need for revolution of the political process.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Lord Don't Slow Me Down" is a song by Oasis. The song was released as a download-only single on October 21, 2007 in promotion of the release of Oasis' rockumentary of the same name, Lord Don't Slow Me Down.

On October 29, the song debuted at number ten in the UK Singles Chart, becoming Oasis' 21st UK top 10. It is also their 21st top ten single in a row. It is also the first single by Oasis not to reach the top 4 since 1994's Cigarettes & Alcohol.

In October 2006 the first part of the song was used in a preview of the band's movie. Written and sung by Noel Gallagher and recorded during the Don't Believe the Truth sessions, Gallagher described it as being "one of the best things, like The Who, The Yardbirds and the Jeff Beck Group combined, and it's got two drum solos on it!" The entire song leaked into the internet just a few days before the video was uploaded on YouTube and the song was played on the radio, on 1 October. The song was a probable track to be included on the band's last album, 2005's Don't Believe The Truth, but was removed from the final track list by Noel Gallagher, as he thought he sang on too many songs on the record. In May 2008 an unreleased studio version with Liam Gallagher on lead vocals was leaked over internet fansites.

This song is included on Dig Out Your Soul bonus CD.

Track Listing

1. "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" - 3:17
2. "The Meaning of Soul" (Live at City of Manchester Stadium '05) - 2:32
3. "Don't Look Back in Anger" (Live at City of Manchester Stadium '05) - 5:38

Noel Gallagher’s admitted that Simon Cowell’s tried to recruit him for The X Factor judging panel not once, but twice – in 2011 and 2013. But he didn’t want to do it.

However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have some advice for the show – a themed week of “songs you can’t murder”.

Noel Gallagher: “I’m Writing Songs At The Minute And I Keep Hearing Saxophones Everywhere"

Noel Gallagher has joked that his appearance on Desert Island Discs has brought him a new fanbase he's dubbing "the grey army".

Speaking at this year's Q Awards, which were held in London yesterday (October 19), Gallagher said that his recent appearance on the show has opened him up to a different generation of fans.

Since I did it [Desert Island Discs], I’ve been stopped on the street on a daily basis by, shall we call them, the older generation of people,” he said of the July 2015 radio appearance.

"Effectively, what they were saying was ‘I always thought you were a bit of an arsehole, but now I’ve heard you on Desert Island Discs I might check out what you do.’ So I’m reaching the grey army, which is great!”

Gallagher also confirmed that he is already working on new material: “I’m writing songs at the minute and I keep hearing saxophones everywhere. The only thing that’s bugging me now is that I may never get rid of them,” he added. “They might have to become part of the actual fabric of the thing.”

The musician was at the awards to accept the Best Album trophy for his 2015 High Flying Birds record 'Chasing Yesterday'. Speaking about the album, Gallagher said: “I think from here on I can do what I want. I’ve been over the moon if I’m being honest, which I rarely am, but I am being now. When you get to this stage of the game, that you’re still reaching people is the main thing,” he added.

Earlier today (October 20) Gallagher announced that he will play a one-off live date at the Royal Albert Hall in London in December.

The gig will take place on December 10, the night before Gallagher releases new single 'The Dying Of The Light'.

As mentioned, the band will then be back on the road in April 2016 with a tour that begins in Glasgow at the SSE Hydro on April 21 and culminates at the end of the month at Bournemouth's BIC. The band will play dates in Aberdeen, Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham in-between. Super Furry Animals support on all dates except in Bournemouth.

Noel Gallagher Wants His Kids To Form The Next Oasis

Noel Gallagher has spoken about the prospect of his two sons forming a band, saying that he would encourage them to do so.

The former Oasis guitarist spoke to Bang Showbiz at the Q Awards on Monday (October 19).

Asked if he would advise against his sons Donovan and Sonny following in his footsteps, Gallagher replied: "No because we were fucking great. You know what I mean. I don't know if you heard but we sold like 70 million fucking albums."

Gallagher says he won't be teaching his kids how to play guitar, however: "I can't teach anyone because I just kind of magicked it up. So my lad has got a drum kit in his bedroom and a guitar, I don't know what he's trying to do fucking at both of them at the same time or something. He's also left-handed which is slightly annoying."

''My theory is that if we have musical instruments lying around the house then they will just pick them up. I don't say guitar lessons today from three until quarter past. If they do it they do it and if they don't they don't.''

Gallagher also admitted that his sons are more interested in hip-hop than his music. He said: ''They're not listening to me that's for sure. They listen to a lot of hip hop which is lightly annoying. They listen to what they're mum listens to and she's kind of urban as well. Hip hop hasn't grown on me, to be honest.''

Noel Gallagher Bemoans Q Awards Design

There are some music awards that matter and others that some artists couldn't give a sh*t about.

Luckily for Noel Gallagher, his latest gong is in the latter category.

Staying true to his 'I'll say whatever I f***ing think' mantra, as soon as the star was on stage accepting the Q Award for Best Album for 'Chasing Yesterday' he was off...

Noel stated: "First of all, I've been coming here for years. They need to f***ing sort this sh*t out, these (the awards) are bobbins, rubbish I've got hundreds of these you can't put them anywhere. This would have been interesting if this was the 90s in that category, I would've been going 'You're f***ing sh*t!'

The former Oasis star, who posed up with Coldplay's Chris Martin at London's Grovesnor Hotel event, also revealed he’s already won too many awards to keep track of.

Asked how many gongs he’d won during the course of his career, Noel told BANG Showbiz: “I've got too many! I give them away, I've lost a few. I don't keep awards at home, I think it's bad for my children.

“My mam has got some stuff at her house, she's got stuff I don't even remember winning."

Meanwhile, Florence + The Machine beat Muse, Foals, The Weeknd and Miguel to win Best Video and The Libertines’ ‘Gunga Din’ was voted Best Track by readers of Q magazine.
