Help Pick The Ultimate Noel Gallagher Playlist

This week the 6 Music Breakfast Show have been honoring some of the biggest and most influential names in music. Keith Richards and Johnny Marr have already been in chatting to Shaun during Legends Week, and Chris Cornell will be in tomorrow – but on Now Playing this Sunday we want you to help us build a show around today’s guest, Noel Gallagher.

Without doubt he’s one of the most influential artists of his generation. He helped Oasis establish themselves as poster boys of Brit Pop in the 1990s, while their success continued well into the new Millennium until their acrimonious split in 2009, which set the path in motion for Noel to form the High Flying Birds.

With controversy, spats and sibling rivalries throughout his career he is unquestionably a rock and roll star, and will forevermore be regarded in the highest esteem thanks to his songwriting, musical talent and distinctive voice.

So accept our challenge and help us pick the Ultimate Noel Gallagher Playlist and make it something reflective of his status as a living legend. You could go for:
* Your favorite Oasis hit, B-side or rarity
* Something he’s made by himself as part of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
* Tracks from people he’s collaborated with be it The Chemical Brothers, Paul Weller, Goldie or even Ricky Gervais
* One of his many influences - The Smiths to The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Stone Roses
* Or one of the bands he’s inspired like Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Lilly Allen and The Cribs

Noel Gallagher Rounds Off 150 Date World Tour In Style

Noel Gallagher rounded off his 150-date world tour in typical rock ’n’ roll style – with a 4.30am finish on the dancefloor.

The former Oasis man played a belter of a gig to a packed Shepherd's Bush Empire – one of the best venues in London.

The crowd lapped it up, especially Angel Child, Aka... What A Life and his acoustic version of Supersonic.

Kate Moss, Lara Stone and David Walliams watched from the balcony as he signed off an amazing 18-month campaign with his High Flying Birds.

Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno also watched from the wings, nodding in appreciation.

The party rolled on at Home House into the wee hours – with some seriously ropey dancing to David Bowie hits towards the end of the night.

The cost to put on the free bar probably negated all profits from the tour, though. Not that Noel needs the money. Top gig, epic night.

Noel Gallagher On Oasis Reunion: If I'm Ever Skint I'll Do It

Noel Gallagher has again ruled out an Oasis comeback for the foreseeable future.

The songwriter told BBC 6 Music that his former bandmates haven't suggested a reunion when he has spoken to them.

"I've seen everybody from the band recently apart from Andy [Bell], everyone," Gallagher said.

"Nobody mentions it. As I understand it, Beady Eye are working on a new record. I've just come back off tour."

He added: "I can't speak for anybody else, and I don't want to sound callous towards Oasis fans around the world.

"But they have to understand that we lived it. We did it. It's not enough for people to email in and say, 'We think you should do it'.

"That's not enough for anybody in the band. I don't believe that it could ever match up to what it was. Saying that, I'll go on record as saying if I'm ever skint I'll do it. No qualms about it."

The guitarist also confirmed that he had sent a text to Liam at Christmas and saw him at a party after the Olympics.

"He done the usual, which was hurl an insult at me and walked off, which was kind of par for the course - nothing new there... he's like a squeaky toy that swears a lot. In a blazer."

Noel wrapped up his Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds world tour last night with a sell-out show at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire.

The guitarist said in September that he would not reform the band "even if all the starving children in the world depended on it", while founding member and rhythm guitarist Bonehead said that Liam Gallagher would "do it in a shot tomorrow".

Noel Gallagher: 'Liam's Like A Squeaky Toy That Swears A Lot... In A Blazer'

High Flying Birds man takes another stab at his little brother

Noel Gallagher has taken another stab at his brother Liam, calling him a "squeaky toy that swears a lot... in a blazer".

The High Flying Birds frontman was speaking on BBC 6 Music this morning (November 14) after his show at London's O2 Shepherds Bush Arena last night.

When asked by host Shaun Keaveny if his mum ever wants to bang their heads together as they fight so much, Noel replied: "I'm 45. He's 40. It's not like me with my two lads – "Give him his Darth Vadar mask now!" It's not like that. He's doing his thing. I'm doing mine. We texted each other at Christmas. I saw him at a party after the Olympics – he did the usual which was hurl an insult at me and walk off... nothing new there."

He added: "He's like a squeaky toy that swears a lot... in a blazer."

Last month, Noel poked fun at his brothers' band Beady Eye, saying that the band's singer did them a "disservice".

"The thing with Beady Eye is… their singer does them a great disservice," he said. "By pronouncing that they will eventually be bigger than Oasis? I was just like, 'Oh, dear'. But I think they caught a lot of flak that was quite undeserved, really. It’s only their first album. I think they’ve got a great album in them next time. They need one. They fucking need one, that’s for sure."

The VHS features the whole show and a 20 minute documentary (entitled 'Mad Fer It') featuring exclusive interviews with Liam and Noel Gallagher. This documentary is unique to the VHS format.

Audio Version (CD / Vinyl / Cassette / MiniDisc)

The CD features a extra bonus track, a cover of The Beatles' song "Helter Skelter", which was recorded at the Riverside Theatre, Milwaukee, WI, USA on April 16, 2000.

A highlights CD was released on October 1, 2001 to celebrate Oasis' tenth anniversary as a band. "Fuckin' In The Bushes", "Step Out", "Stand By Me", "Hey Hey My My", and "Helter Skelter" were all ommitted.

As Liam didn't bother to sing the choruses of "Wonderwall" and also changed the words to other parts of the song ("By now you should have somehow... realised not to sniff glue" / "And all the lights that light the way are... doin' me fuckin' 'ead in!") at the July 21 gig, the version on the various audio formats features a different vocal track to the original one recorded at Wembley. This also applies to Noel's backing vocals. Most of these overdubbed vocals were recorded live at Oasis' gig at the Yokohama Arena, Tokyo, on March 5, 2000. Only one line: "I'm sure you heard it all before, but you never really had a doubt", is from the actual Wembley gig, as Liam slightly messed up this line in the Tokyo performance.

The audio version of the album is also missing various bits of between-track banter.

Other Trivia

A promo video of the Wembley version of "Gas Panic!" was distributed to music channels. The video featured visuals from throughout the gig and was slightly edited down to 6:57.

A "Gas Panic!" promo CD was issued in Brazil to promote Oasis' appearance at the Rock In Rio festival on January 14, 2001. The 2-track CD included the album version and an edited version of the Wembley track, which was edited down to 4:28.

The live album came about after the chaotic Wembley gig of July 22, 2000. This concert was being broadcast live to dozens of countries across the world but was hampered by an extremely drunk Liam Gallagher, whose out-of-tune singing and general ranting made it into an unappealing showcase of Oasis' live capabilities in the eyes of Sony BMG, who were worried about a large number of bootleg recordings being distributed.

Each of the six different formats (plus the 2001 highlights CD) had a different colour for its own cover art.

Stop The Clocks is an EP by British rock band Oasis and was released on November 13th 2006.

The EP is a "preview" of the band's compilation collection, also called Stop the Clocks. The EP is led by "Acquiesce", and book-ended by "The Masterplan", one of the B-sides to the "Wonderwall" single released in October 1995. Also included on the EP is the demo of "Cigarettes & Alcohol" and a live version of "Some Might Say" from 1995.

The EP does not contain the song of the same name, and is available only as a one-off collectors edition CD and Double gatefold 7” including an exclusive sheet of stickers. As there are over two B-sides, the EP was not be eligible for inclusion in the UK Singles Chart. Had it been eligible it would have charted at #5 with 20,858 copies sold.

"Cigarettes & Alcohol" (demo) - 4:38

The EP's notes say that the location of the live recording of "Some Might Say" is unknown. However, analysis of bootlegs have shown that the location was the Club Citta in Tokyo, Japan on 22nd August, 1995.

Beady Eye Recording New Album With A New Producer

Beady Eye have entered to the studio to work on their second album.

According to an announcement on the band's website, Beady Eye today (November 12) started working with producer Dave Sitek, best known as a member of TV On The Radio and closely associated with the New York scene of the 2000s. His credits include 'It's Blitz' by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, 'Antidotes' by Foals and 'Anywhere I Lay My Head' by Scarlett Johansson.

The official statement reads: "Beady Eye have returned to the studio to start on the follow up to their 'Different Gear, Still Speeding' debut album released last year. Liam, Gem, Andy and Chris started sessions today with producer Dave Sitek... Release date is yet to be confirmed but the as yet untitled album will come out in 2013."

n September, Beady Eye guitarist Andy Bell said that an Oasis reunion "probably should happen at some point".

Speaking to Drowned In Sound, the band's former bass player said that he'd 'love' to see an Oasis reunion happen, commenting: "I'd love it to happen. I think that life's too short for it not to happen. But, in reality, do I see it happening? At this point, no I don't. The matter rests entirely with the two brothers. It probably should happen at some point but if they can't make it happen, no one should force them to."
