Ride / Pêtr Aleksänder Clouds In The Mirror (This Is Not A Safe Place Reimagined By Pêtr Aleksänder)

Ride handed the entirety of their highly acclaimed 6th studio album, This Is Not A Safe Place, to mysterious London act, Pêtr Aleksänder, who stripped the songs back to just the vocals and added their customarily beautiful string arrangements, keys and synth textures beneath them. The results take Ride deep into the neo-classical / ambient territory that a couple of the remixes of their previous album hinted at and will appeal to fans of those musical styles, as well as those who consider themselves a part of the band’s die-hard fanbase. First pressing of the LP is on limited edition clear vinyl + comes with download code.

Andy Bell On A New Album From Ride, 'This Is Not A Safe Place' And More

If there were any questions if Ride were in it for real this time, those have been answered with the release of This Is Not A Safe Place, the second album since their reformation and an album that shows a band going forward instead of only pandering to an idea of their past.

Andy Bell gave Kyle Meredith a shout to discuss what getting the reunion record out of the way meant for these sessions, stories behind "Repetition" and "R.I.D.E.," how even the big topic songs look inward on this record, and the influence of Basquiat and the late 80s alternative scene. We're also told that another new album won't be far behind.

Andy Bell "Oasis Changed My Life"

Andy Bell's life changed the first time he heard Oasis.

The 45-year-old musician joined the 'Supersonic' band as their bass player in late 1999 as a replacement for original bassist Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan and admits it was a dream come true for him to be part of the now defunct group because their debut album 'Definitely Maybe' had such a huge impact on him when it was released in 1994.

Andy - who played guitar in Liam Gallagher's post-Oasis band Beady Eye and is now back playing in his original group Ride - recalled: "Oasis definitely did change my life when I first heard them! They were like a breath of fresh air. To put it into context, Ride were working on the third album, 'Carnival of Light', and we were taking a bit of a break. We were starting to get a bit frayed at the edges and we were starting to pull in different directions musically, too. We were really shooting for a kind of West Coast Byrdsy California sound mixed with a little bit of Led Zeppelin and a little bit of classic rock.

"I think we were also subconsciously trying to make a cleaner record, because we'd stopped getting played on the radio ... but then along comes Oasis sounding like the Jesus and Mary Chain meets the Sex Pistols and just completely blew everything out of the water!"

Andy also paid tribute to his former Oasis bandmate Noel Gallagher, insisting his skills as a guitarist are underestimated by too many people.

He told website MusicRadar: "I just want to say that I think Noel's really underrated as a lead guitar player. His playing is like a John Squire-y thing, but there's a lot more muscle behind it. He kind of trademarked his own style, which has become something that everyone uses now - that massively overdriven sound with quite a lot of delay on it. [His playing] just sounded epic."

Andy Bell Reformed Ride Before Beady Eye Split

British Rocker Andy Bell Had Already Reformed His 1990s Band Ride Before Liam Gallagher Announced Beady Eye Had Split.

Bell first found success with the Leave Them All Behind hitmakers, but following their break-up in the mid-1990s he went on to work with Gallagher in Oasis and his later band, Beady Eye.

Gallagher announced in October (14) that he was disbanding the group, and Bell revealed the following month (Nov14) that he was reforming Ride, but now it has emerged he was already rehearsing with his former bandmates and preparing for their relaunch when Beady Eye split.

Bell tells Uncut magazine, "I knew Beady Eye was going to be on writing time, and this spring would be pretty free. I told the Beady Eye guys I wanted to do this. Later on, the news came though from Liam that he was calling it a day. So it meant that instead of being two weeks of gigs, it would be a little more."
