Paul Weller On Why Noel Gallagher Doesn't Need To Reform Oasis

Paul Weller has been speaking on why Noel Gallagher doesn't need to reform Oasis.

He told the NME "Why would he need to? he's flying at the moment. I don't think he needs to. There's always exceptions, but generally speaking I'm f*cking bored stiff of reunions. I know it's popular with people, but I don't get it - I don't get the whole nostalgia thing. It's just become a business, hasn't it"?

Noel Gallagher On The Numerous Influences On His New Album

Noel Gallagher has said a song on his new album is a mix of "T Rex, The Rolling Stones and Queens Of The Stone Age" while stating the another is one of his favourite things he has ever written.

Gallagher's High Flying Birds release new album 'Chasing Yesterday' on March 2. It features the single 'In The Heat Of The Moment' as well as Johnny Marr collaboration 'Ballad Of The Mighty I'.

Speaking to NME in the cover feature of this week's issue, which is on newsstands now and available digitally Gallagher describes the saxophone player used on album opener 'The Riverman' as being "summoned from a smoky room in 1963," adding that the song is, "fucking amazing. It's my favourite track on the album, and one of my favourites I've ever done."

Meanwhile, 'The Right Stuff', also taken from from the record has numerous influences. Put to him by NME that the song's riff is reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age, Gallagher replies: "I thought The Rolling Stones, and Johnny Marr when he heard it said, 'That's fucking T Rex'. But if it's a cross between T Rex, The Rolling Stones and Queens Of The Stone Age, fucking hell, I'll take that any day."

Noel Gallagher On His Brother Liam And The Break Up Of Beady Eye

Noel Gallagher has said that his brother Liam is "making a fucking mess" of his personal life at the moment, but backed him to be able to get back to his best.

The last twelve months have proven tumultuous for Liam with the Beady Eye split and a long-running court case in New York over financial support for a baby he fathered while married to ex-wife Nicole Appleton.

Speaking to NME in the cover feature of this week's issue, which is on newsstands now and available digitally, his older brother Noel acknowledges things are not going well for Liam at the moment.

"He's making a fucking mess of things at the moment, but we've all been there," he says. "I've been there. Something like that can be a great thing because you get to the bottom and you cleanse yourself of a lot of fucking shit baggage and you start again. I’m the kind of person that says 'Fuck it, take it' and I'll start again. And that would be my advice to him."

Asked to pinpoint what went wrong for Beady Eye, who separated in October 2014 after releasing two albums, Noel identifies a key issue with the band's make up. "They’re a fucking great band but they're not great songwriters. They needed one great song. Not just a hit single, a great fucking tune. But I don’t think he’ll be out of the game forever."

The last time Noel saw Liam was at the Etihad Stadium on May 11 last year, the day Manchester City won the Premier League. "I was in the directors box, obviously, and he was outside selling burgers, and one of the directors asked if I wanted to go on the pitch with the team, and I was like, 'Fucking yeah' so I went on the pitch and in the tunnel before I said to [club captain] Vincent Kompany 'Give us your armband' and he gave me it, so I was wearing it in the bar afterwards, and I was sitting there talking to somebody, and someone came up behind me and tried to take the armband off and I was like, 'Fucking get off of it' and it was Liam. And he was like, 'Fucking hell man you knobhead, you shouldn’t have that, I should fucking have that'. And that's how it started. And I was like, 'Oh yeah, alright, and how are you?' Every time I see him he is still being a bit of a fucking cheeky cunt. And he’s still putting out the persona of the angry barking dog."

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran has responded to Noel's remarks that he couldn't live in a world where Ed Sheeran headlines Wembley, stating "I can live in it, it's really enjoyable".

Earlier this week Gallagher revealed his new single 'Ballad Of The Mighty I' and reiterated his desire to play Glastonbury in June, suggesting that he might take his guitar and play regardless of whether he is officially booked for the festival or not.

Gallagher's upcoming record 'Chasing Yesterday' will be his second solo studio album and features his new single 'In The Heat Of The Moment'.

Ed Sheeran Responds To Noel Gallagher's Remarks About His Wembley Concerts

Ed Sheeran has responded to Noel Gallagher's remarks that he couldn't live in a world where Ed Sheeran headlines Wembley, stating "I can live in it, it's really enjoyable".

Sheeran tweeted his comeback after Gallagher expressed his dismay at the fact that Sheeran will play three gigs at Wembley Stadium to NME. In the cover feature of this week's issue, which is on newsstands from tomorrow and available digitally, the former Oasis man said: "I don’t think I can live in a world where that’s even possible. When you hear that kind of polished pop and then there’s a ginger guy with a fucking guitar it seems subversive, but it’s fucking not."

As confirmed last year, Sheeran will play a trio of dates at the 80,000 capacity London stadium in July. Two of the dates were added due to phenomenal demand.

Noel Gallagher Can't Live In A World Where Ed Sheeran Is Headlining Wembley

Noel Gallagher has expressed his dismay at the fact Ed Sheeran will play three gigs at Wembley Stadium later this year.

As confirmed last year, Sheeran will play a trio of dates at the 80,000 capacity London stadium in July. Two of the dates were added due to popular demand.

However, Gallagher is not happy this is happening. As he tells NME in the cover feature of this week's issue, which is on newsstands from tomorrow and available digitally, "I don’t think I can live in a world where that’s even possible. When you hear that kind of polished pop and then there’s a ginger guy with a fucking guitar it seems subversive, but it’s fucking not."

Gallagher goes on to give his evaluation of the current music scene, painting a bleak picture.

He said: "It’s a strange time, and it seems like the whole thing is embedded for good now, for fucking forever. It’s not all over, but it’ll go back to the way it was in the early ‘80s where indie bands are the alternative thing, the lower level. In the early ‘80s everyone at indie labels, even major labels, were trying to push this music to the fore because everything else was shit, and maybe it’ll happen again, but I don’t see it for the next decade."

Johnny Marr features on the track 'The Ballad Of Mighty I'.

Noel Gallagher Pokes Fun At Oasis Video Rant With New Single

Noel Gallagher, who ranted about how much he hated making music videos last year, has unveiled his new track today in which he repeats many of the things he previously poked fun at.

In 2014, an expletive-packed compilation of his scathing comments about his past Oasis videos became a YouTube sensation.

Now a new six minute-long clip to accompany his next single Ballad Of The Mighty I appears to have parodied many of the elements which upset him the most.

The 47-year-old's hilarious grumbles were taken from an audio commentary track which featured on a DVD release of the band's hits, with Gallagher cringing as he pointed out that the band had excelled at "walking and playing and standing still... and looking bored".

The guitarist moaned about walking in slow motion repeatedly, complained about how a director told him to do one scene again with more energy in his eyes and spoke about his hatred of the whole experience.

"I hate the fact they cost a fortune. I hate the fact you've got to be there at eight in the morning. I hate the fact you don't leave until eight the next morning.

"I don't like the fact that the people who're making them think they're making Apocalypse Now and everything is the most important - 'this the really important shot'," he said, adding that he was tired of doing repeated takes.

For his latest video meanwhile he is seen walking and playing guitar in slow motion and again looks completely bored.

During his previous rant, Noel had grumbled that the band looked like they were wearing someone else's clothes, and in his new film he is seen stealing a new jacket from outside a shop.

A self-absorbed director also appears at the beginning, telling him: "Just keep it super loose, lots of energy in the eyes".

The video concludes with him adding: "Good energy in the eyes, I like the swagger. Just had a bit of a technical back there. Can we just go for another one? Chris Martin did 10 takes."

Noel Gallagher On The Plan For A Oasis Musical

In an exclusive chat with Jon Holmes, Noel said an American had pitched an Oasis "rags to riches" musical to him - and he found the idea hilarious.

Noel Gallagher has admitted that he might have blown the chance to make an Oasis musical a reality...because he found it so hilarious.

Noel was talking as he unveiled brilliant new song The Ballad Of The Mighty I, which features Johnny Marr, on the XFM Breakfast Show.

"Somebody did talk to me once about a musical, recently, an American dude," Noel told Jon. "And after I'd stopped laughing, I realised that he'd walked off."

Gallagher said the pitch was for "the rags to riches story of Oasis" to be put onstage. "After I'd belly-laughed and spewed up a drink, he wasn't there any more, so I don't think it'll be happening any time soon!"

Sting's multi-million dollar musical The Last Ship closed on Broadway after less than three months - something Noel didn't seem to have a lot of sympathy for.

"Some people have no taste, I find that staggering that people would not go and see a musical about a Geordie fella who doesn't speak in a Geordie accent who used to be in a band with a jazz drummer whose dad was in the CIA about him growing up in a shipyard.

"The mind boggles."

Noel Gallagher Says New Bands Are Scared Of Social Media

Noel Gallagher has said that new bands are "careerist" and are afraid to be outspoken because they're scared of the backlash on social media.

During a round table interview with the NME, which also included Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods and Elly Jackson of La Roux, Gallagher was asked why so many bands have so little to say.

"It's because they're s**t scared of social media! They're s**t scared of somebody killing it before it's started. One of the main differences for me is that bands these days are careerists.

"I know for a fact that nobody in Primal Scream ever thought about a career, or Oasis, or The Verve. Everybody was thinking, 'We're having a great time, this is amazing!'"

Noel Gallagher Has A Swipe At "Sh*t" Charts Shows And Mainstream Radio

Noel Gallagher has taken a swipe at "shit" charts shows and mainstream radio, stating that if Oasis were starting out today they "would have nowhere near the impact" that they had in the 90s.

In the new issue of NME, which is on newsstands now and available digitally, Gallagher discussed the monotony of the charts, the artists that end up in the top spot and the bureaucracy of the music industry in general.

"If you're Number One in the charts now, it automatically means you must be shit. Bands now go cap-in-hand to the industry and the industry has already decided what it wants for the fucking chart stars. But the charts are all the fucking same. Every single song in the Top 10 is the same shit with a different voice," he said.

Gallagher was part of a panel discussing the current state of music alongside Courtney Barnett, Sleaford Mods' Jason Williamson and Elly Jackson (La Roux). The former Oasis man, whose new solo album 'Chasing Yesterday' is out in March, explained that what drives him most angry is the industry's control over artists. "The artist used to drive the industry, but the industry reacted to Britpop, or whatever it was. And now bands go to the industry and go, 'What is it you want again? OK, I can do that.' But when we all came along – and it wasn't by design, it was completely accidental – the industry took a step back and was like, 'What the fuck is this? These people are all drug addicts and maniacs, they're gonna fuck the fucking share prices up! We need to get rid of these people!'"

He added: "If Oasis were starting tomorrow we would have nowhere near the impact, because you're judged instantly on your first gig, and then Radio 1 will judge you on how many fucking followers you've got on Facebook […] Oasis never had an A&R at Creation – we were given the fucking keys to the kingdom and they went, 'Off you go, see you in a bit'. Now, the manager is accountable to the A&R guy, who's accountable to the guy above him, who's gonna lose his fucking job."

Last month, Gallagher criticised the way that Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian's success has not inspired a new wave of working class bands to follow in their footsteps. "The working classes have not got a voice anymore, there doesn't seem to be a noise coming from the council estates. Music is very middle class, I’d have eaten Bastille alive in an afternoon in the '90s, one interview, destroyed, gone, never to be heard of again," he said.

Noel Gallagher On Coldplay And Radiohead's New Albums

Noel Gallagher has spoken to Q about the new albums by Coldplay and Radiohead.

He said "I'm fascinated to see how Coldplay react to what U2 did (giving their album away via iTunes). I'm expecting to wake up in the middle of the night and Chris Martin is stood there, burrowing into my brain with his new CD going 'You don't even have to go into iTunes, mate, it's already in you're f**king mind'. It'll be interesting to see the fawning response from the media to Radiohead making the same album again".

Noel Gallagher Wants To Produce The New Libertines Album If He Has The Time

Noel Gallagher has told Q Magazine he would definitely be interested in producing the Libertines new album.

He said "I'll definitely be interested in the Libertines LP. If I had time I'd love to produce that record. I love those two (Carl Barrat & Pete Doherty). I hope the record is as interesting as the journey making it, because, if they actually do make it, that'll be amazing in itself. And I'm sure, if it's all old tunes that they've binned off... I know people go, 'Oh, f**king hell', but. having binned off loads of old tunes myself and still discovered odd bits here and there, there's bound to be some good stuff there".

Noel Gallagher On Beady Eye's Split And Says Liam Should Do A Solo Album

Noel Gallagher has told Q Magazine he is "very f**king sad about Beady Eye, because I know they really wanted to make it work. I wanted it to work for them. Listen I was out with Gem the other night. The vibe I'm getting is that it was a shock, although not completely surprising. I'm amazed Liam has chucked it in. But he won't stay out of the limelight for long. I think Liam should make a solo record - put his balls on the line, and put his name in lights, and go for it".

Noel Gallagher Talks About A Number Of New Tracks From His New Album

Noel Gallagher has spoken to the Q Magazine about his album 'Chasing Yesterday' that is released in March.

Album opener 'Riverman' drifts on a blissful acoustic grove, before building to a skyscraping guitar solo and a gentle sax solo.

Noel says "It's the sound of 1970's Sunset Boulevard with Santana playing lead guitar over a pothead groove, and a Pink Floyd saxophone player in the background".

He said the track was inspired by a night out with Russell Brand and Morrissey in Los Angeles.

On 'Lock All The Doors' he says he's "nicked a bit from 'Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't Have) by the Buzzcocks".

There are a few reworked tracks from his aborted 2011 collaboration with 'Amorphous Androgynous' 'The Mexican' is a stomper and 'The Right Stuff' is "proper psychedelic jazz".

He said he loves the way these things sit on the same record.

The 'Ballard Of Mighty I' apparently sums up the entire album's lyrical theme "the things in life that will always remain slightly out of reach". The hope in the song, he adds, "is that the chase is what is great".

"I'm not sure I really want Manchester City to win the Champions League for 10 consecutive seasons. It shouldn't be that easy. I don't like to use the word 'Journey' because you sound like a contestant on a reality TV show, but surely the journey is better then the destination.
