Gallery: Noel Gallagher Does A Bit Of Last Minute Christmas Shopping

Noel Gallagher appears to have left his present shopping to the last minute.

The 47-year-old star was pictured leaving London’s famous Harrods in London following what appeared to be a successful present spree on Tuesday.

Toting a green carrier bag in his hand, the Oasis rocker kept things simple in a dark blue bomber jacket and denim jeans.

Gallery: Liam Gallagher Delights Christmas Party Diners In Manchester

Oasis star Liam Gallagher delighted festive diners at San Carlo - when he turned up at the packed Italian restaurant on Sunday night.

Liam, dressed in a trademark green parka and with his hair back in a moptop style, stunned revellers when he turned up at the King Street West celebhaunt.

Burnage boy Liam has headed home for Christmas and was in festive mood - happily posing for pictures with fans inside the venue.

Liam may have been kicking himself at his timing though - as he just missed Manchester City star Frank Lampard dining at the venue with his missus Christine Bleakley in the afternoon.

Blues mad Liam is sure to be delighted that his team are now joint top of the Premier League with Chelsea - at least for another few hours anyway until Chelsea play Stoke City on Monday night.

And Liam appears to be making the most of his time back on home turf - he was spotted earlier on Sunday over at The Bull’s Head pub in Mobberley.

We’ll be keeping a beady eye on what Liam is up to in 2015 - after he announced in October that his band Beady Eye have split up.

They formed in the wake of Oasis’ split in 2009, and it means for the first time in over 24 years Liam is without a band.

Will he follow brother Noel Gallagher in going down a solo route? We can’t wait to find out.

Gallery: Liam Gallagher Enjoys Manchester City's Victory Over Crystal Palace

It's fair to say he has a love of the beautiful game - and singer Liam Gallagher was more than thrilled when his team, Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 3-0 on Saturday.

The former Oasis star was pictured outside Southern Eleven Restaurant in The Spinningfields area of Manchester with a friend while fist-pumping the air chanting 'City! City! Top of the League.'

He also told photographers that the strong northern wind was playing havoc with his hair.

Liam, 42, was of course decked out in his trademark green jacket which he teamed with dark jeans and a striped T-shirt with white trainers.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 'Ballad Of The Mighty I' Will Be Available Next Month

'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' next single will be the 'Ballad Of The Mighty I' and available on January 13, 2015 according to AMAZON.COM.

The track features Johnny Marr who spoke earlier this year about the track "He contacted me and said he had a song that he'd be happy for me to play on," Marr says. "I accpeted, gladly, and it was was really good to spend a day playing guitar in a little studio near Chelsea Bridge. When that was done I listened to about eight songs on the album."

Asked how the album sounds, Marr continues: "It's really good. What I heard of it was very melodic, some of it pretty rocking too, and fans are going to really like it. He doesn't do things he doesn't think are great. And his singing is really good on the album."

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Whatever" is a single by British rock band Oasis, written by the band's lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. It was released on December 19th 1994 as a stand-alone single bridging the gap between Oasis' debut album, Definitely Maybe, and their second album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. "Whatever" entered the UK Singles Chart at #3, their first single to enter the top 5. The strings were played by the London Session Orchestra, arranged by Nick Ingham and Noel Gallagher.

The song joins the infectious pop-rock melodies of Definitely Maybe with the more sophisticated lyrics of (What's the Story) Morning Glory, preaching universal tolerance and the acceptance of all ideas and beliefs in a typically straightforward, Mancunian way. The first lines ("I'm free to be whatever I/Whatever I choose/And I'll sing the blues if I want") may have been Noel's reaction to his father's insistence that he join the building trade.

"Whatever" was released as a contender for the coveted position of Christmas #1, 1994
It is a testament to Noel Gallagher's all-conquering self confidence that he should predict "Whatever"'s success before he was even given a record contract, saying "In the beginning, there was a masterplan, to the extent that I knew that 'Whatever,' one of the first songs I ever wrote, would be a Christmas Top Five hit, but I think anyone who heard the song could have told you that."

When Oasis performed the song for Top of the Pops, they mimed and one of the cello players from the symphony was replaced by Bonehead, who clearly had no idea how his instrument is supposed to be played. Towards the end of the song, he gave up the pretense and started using the bow to conduct. A woman plays his rhythm guitar. The song was introduced by Damon Albarn of Blur who would later famously feud with Oasis. As Albarn introduced the song, the Gallagher brothers made hand gestures behind him, which only served to heighten the feud between the bands.

"Whatever" has been performed live by Oasis many times, sometimes with the ambitious symphony which accompanies the single version, sometimes without. They often end live versions of the song with lyrics adapted from the Beatles song "Octopus's Garden." They have also been known to add the lines "All the young blues....carry the news...", in reference to the Mott the Hoople song "All The Young Dudes". The "blues" are the fans of the Gallaghers' beloved Manchester City F.C.. At their famous performances at Knebworth in August 1996, the song was accompanied throughout by harmonica player Mark Feltham and is generally regarded by fans as one of the highlights of their set.

The B-Sides of "Whatever" were quite famous as well. One of them, "Slide Away" was already featured on their debut album, Definitely Maybe. The other two - "(It's Good) To Be Free" and "Half the World Away" - were later featured on The Masterplan, a collection of Oasis's best b-sides. "Slide Away" and "Half the World Away" would also be featured on Oasis' 2006 "best of" album Stop the Clocks, although "Whatever" itself was not included.

'Whatever' spent a total of 50 weeks in the UK Singles chart, more than any Oasis single to date.

Andy Bell's Ride To Play Intimate Show For War Child

Ride, Bastille and Duran Duran will play intimate shows to benefit the international charity in the tenth year of its fundraising Passport:Back To The Bars shows.

Acts like The Cure, Amy Winehouse and Elbow have played War Child's Passport:Back To The Bars shows in the past, and now the first acts of the 2015 line-up have been announced.

Andy Bell and Mark Gardener from reunited shoegaze band Ride will play an acoustic set for a small group of fans, in the run-up to the group's sold-out series of shows in the summer.

Bastille have also been confirmed for the bill, while 1980s popstars Duran Duran will also do a show in the capital in aid of the charity.

The shows will take place in Manchester and London, in small venues of no more than 300 people. Further acts and details will be announced early in January.

Duran Duran’s John Taylor said: “Thousands of children...are often being denied education and other basic human rights. We are looking forward to performing an exclusive event in London this coming February, in support of War Child and the important work they do in the regions where these children are suffering."

Noel Gallagher Embarrasses Daughter In Front Of One Direction's Harry Styles

Noel Gallagher may remain one of the most achingly cool rockers of all time.

But that doesn't stop him from being a seriously embarrassing dad, as 14-year-old daughter Anais found out the moment they came face to face with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.

Noel, 47, couldn't help himself when it came to exposing his model daughter's teenage crush when they ran into the pop star at a cafe recently.

Anais - who Noel had with ex-wife Meg Matthews - is a big fan of the X Factor-formed band but she was left mortified after her dad intervened when they first met.

The teen beauty, who signed with select models when she was 11, told Grazia magazine: 'Harry seems really nice. I was in a cafe once and Harry came in. I'd been joking that I'd probably wet myself if 1D walked in.

'So my dad started kicking me under the table and shouted, "Are you going to wet yourself now?" I literally died.'

It seems that in Anais' opinion, Harry and the band can rock it better than Oasis after she saw them perform the Take Me Home tour in 2011 and tweeted: 'best night ever xx loved it truly rocked it better than my dad noel Gallagher thanks @Harry_Styles for arranging it,'

Though Oasis rocker Noel previously said that band members Harry, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were 'f***ing idiots' and snubbed the boys at the Brit Awards where they were politely told to f**k off.

Tabloid Alert: Liam Gallagher Getting 'Rare' Guitar For Christmas

Liam Gallagher is reportedly receiving a rare Gretsch guitar from his girlfriend Debbie Gwyther for Christmas.

The former Oasis star is reportedly set to receive the gift, an iconic Gretsch electric variety, from his girlfriend Debbie Gwyther, who is said to have ''put a lot of work'' into finding the perfect present for her rocker beau.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: ''Liam has been spending a lot of time playing his guitar recently and Debbie knows how much a rare Gretsch would mean to him.

''It's a US company but there are dealers and private sellers here.

'She's put a lot of work into sourcing the right one for him.''

However, it appears Liam, 42, won't be showing off his guitar skills with the thoughtful gift any time soon.

The 'Wonderwall' hitmaker - who also fronted Beady Eye until their split in October - has previously slammed ''idiotic'' musicians for playing their own guitars on stage and insisted he would ''rather eat [his] own s**t'' than do the same
.
In 2011, he said: ''I'd rather eat my own s**t than play my guitar on stage. I hate when singers do that, and even more so when frontmen do it. It looks idiotic.''

Check Out These Oasis Gnomes

Oasis and The Ramones have been turned into gnomes by a UK-based company.

Andrew McDermid and Charlie Boyle, who last year released gnome versions of The Stone Roses, have returned for 2014 with "Ranomes" and "Definitely Gnomey".

"‘We knew Liam, Bonehead etc loved the Gnome Roses, so we sent a set to everyone in the band," said McDermid, who toured with Oasis in 1994 as a member of Whiteout.

"Definitely Gnomey were born to allow the feisty Manchester rockers to share the same kudos as their legendary counterparts. Bonehead was even offering us tips on how to use social media to best effect, advising that the Gnome Roses should have their own Twitter account."

In a statement issued by the pair, McDermid added: "We spent all of last year turning band names into their equivalent gnome versions. But we didn’t want to take it too far, make ‘gnome’ mistake! Ranomes were the natural choice for us, because they were distinctive enough, and have that unmistakable iconic look.

Noel Gallagher Blames Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian And Bastille For The State Of English Music

Noel Gallagher has spoken about the lack of working-class voices in contemporary music, suggesting the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian have made no impact in terms of encouraging any new “noise coming from the council estates”.

During an interview for the BBC Master Tapes show, via NME, a member of the audience questioned the Oasis founder about the health of the current British music scene. “You only have to look at the charts, what happened at the end of the 90s, all those bands used to be in the top 10, like us, Manics, Pulp, the Verve, Suede and Blur, and I think bands like that have been marginalised and sidelined,” he said. “There’s X Factor and all that kind of thing, but you name me the last great band that came out of this country? There’s not really been any great bands in the last 10 years.”

Specifically lamenting the lack of exciting bands (adding that One Direction were “not a band” but a group), Gallagher said that Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian had done little in the last decade to expand the variety of musicians operating in an increasingly middle-class music industry: "Shame on those two bands for a start because they didn’t inspire anybody else. The working classes have not got a voice any more. There doesn’t seem to be a noise coming from the council estates, you know what I mean?

I’d have eaten Bastille alive in an afternoon in the 90s, one interview, destroyed, gone, never to be heard of again. Easy, had ’em for breakfast. My bass player summed it up – we’re constantly saying: ‘Where is the next band coming from?’ and he rightly says: ‘Never mind the band, where are the people?’”

Gallagher added: “When I first started I wanted to get in the charts and wreck it, like stamp Phil Collins out and Wet Wet Wet, they’ve got to go, and all that 80s gear, we don’t need that any more. I don’t see anything from the working class, I just don’t see it.”

The musician’s recent statements echo his comments from a 2013 interview in weekly men’s magazine Shortlist, claiming that it was only the “middle-class” bands that refused to play at Teenage Cancer Trust gigs taking place at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The new album from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Chasing Yesterday, is released in March.

Noel Gallagher Reveals He Is Sat On "Albums And Albums Worth Of Material"

Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has admitted that he has "albums and albums worth of material" that is yet to be released.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's John Wilson, as part of the station's Mastertapes series, Gallagher revealed that he's been stockpiling songs since 1993, when he began work on what would become Oasis's hugely successful debut album Definitely Maybe and has never recorded an album without having more than 30 songs available to choose from.

He said: "I've had a stockpile of songs since 1993. I've never written for a specific project, I've never been in the studio with less than 30 songs. I've just recorded an album, but I've still got another 30 songs."

He continued: "Instead of writing 15 or 16 songs for a cycle of where [Oasis] were at, we were using five, but I was still writing 15, 20 songs, so there's loads of stuff left over from those days. Albums and albums worth of material. Because you move so fast as a writer, and you can only really do ten songs on an album at a time, lots get left behind."

Gallagher will release his second solo album Chasing Yesterday in March of next year.

The album is the second the former Oasis guitarist has released under the name of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and features new single 'In The Heat Of The Moment'. You can hear that track at the bottom of the page.

The LP will feature 10 tracks on the standard edition and 13 on the deluxe edition, including a new version of 'Freaky Teeth', which Gallagher played live on his last solo tour.

Listen Again: Noel Gallagher (The A-Side) Mastertapes

John Wilson continues with the latest series of Mastertapes, in which he talks to leading performers and songwriters about the album that made them or changed them. Recorded in front of a live audience at the BBC's iconic Maida Vale Studios. Each edition includes two episodes, with John initially quizzing the artist about the album in question, and then, in the B-side, the audience puts the questions. Both editions feature exclusive live performances.

Programme 9, A-side. 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' with Noel Gallagher

In 2009 Noel Gallagher left Oasis - one of the seminal bands of the Britpop era with seven multi-platinum albums including: 'Definitely Maybe', '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' and 'Be Here Now' - which became the fastest selling album in UK chart history. Two years later Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds also went to Number 1 in the UK with tracks like "Everybody's On the Run", "AKA... What A Life!" and "The Death of You and Me". Praised for its psychedelic tinges and eternal themes of love, loss and hope, it's been described as the best collection of songs "since his Morning Glory days".

With tracks inspired by New Orleans ragtime rhythms and Ennio Morricone-like strings, it put paid to rumours that its creator entered into a state of inertia after the end of Oasis. Noel Gallagher said of the album: "I won't criticize anything about Oasis because I loved being in that band and I was in charge of it, but there was always the feeling: how will this go down in Wembley, with 70,000 people braying for good times? This time I didn't have to think about that. I've got a guy playing wine glasses on one song, a saw on another. This is not Oasis."

Noel Gallagher Jokes The Next Coldplay Album Will Be Hand-Delivered By Chris Martin

Noel Gallagher has postulated a scenario in which copies of the next Coldplay album will be hand-delivered by Chris Martin – and come with a free tenner.

Gallagher was speaking to Radio 4's John Wilson for the series Mastertapes, in which the former Oasis guitarist discussed the making of 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds', his 2011 solo debut. The programme will be broadcast at 11pm today (December 8).

Asked for his opinion on U2's iTunes giveaway of new album 'Song Of Innocence', Gallagher said: "I don't agree with music being given away for free because it costs a lot of money to make a record. Look, [U2] obviously don't need the money, good for them, but it's not something that I would ever consider…"

Asked if the move undermines the value of music, Gallagher replied: "It doesn't undermine the value of my music, no, so does it undermine the value of theirs? I don't know. A lot of people go to see them live and they're brilliant. If anything, they've gained two new fans in my sons, who since then have become mega-fans."

Discussing the shift in the music industry, Gallagher said that the trend started with Radiohead's 2007 album 'In Rainbows', which could be purchased for a nominal fee online.

"All this started with Radiohead didn't it, and people have been reacting to that ever since... I remember the Kaiser Chiefs were like, 'Make your own record, we'll give you a pound.' What? You're giving people a pound?! It remains to be seen how Coldplay react to it. I firmly believe we'll all get a knock on the door at some point over the next two years and Chris [Martin] will be stood there. And he'll say, 'Alright man, you know, here's a Coldplay album.' And you'll go, 'Thanks.' And there's a ladder and he'll say, 'Bass player's just fixing the guttering, Johnny's round the back, he's doing the gardening and I think Will's going to put the recycling out, so enjoy.' And then he'll come back and say, 'Oh, I forgot – here's a tenner.' Who knows what's going to happen. But for the record, no-one's getting anything out of me for free."

Johnny Marr Is Very Impressed By The "Cool" Sounding Noel Gallagher Record

Johnny Marr thinks Noel Gallagher's solo material is "very clever" and sounds really "cool".

Marr has guested on a track on his friend's forthcoming new album and is very impressed by the "cool" sounding record.

He said: "Noel's done a clever thing, he's managed to make his solo career very natural and incorporate a new kind of sound.

"It has that kind of cool, rolling clubby sort of feel to it with his singing over the top."

Many years ago, Johnny sent Noel a guitar he wrote The Smiths' 'Panic' on, and when it was smashed during an altercation on stage he kindly sent him another.

Asked if he had sent him the 'Panic' guitar, Johnny told Q magazine: "I did yeah but then he broke it.

"They were on tour in Newcastle and I got a frantic phone call saying there'd been an altercation on stage and the guitar had been broken so I went to the shed, dusted off the one I did 'The Queen is Dead' on and sent it up to him. He's still got it."

Listen To Noel Gallagher On Mastertapes Later Today

Noel Gallagher (the A-Side) is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 Later today (8th December) at 23:00 (UK TIME) listen live by clicking here.
