On This Day In Oasis History...

'Falling Down' was a single released on March 9th 2009 by English rock band Oasis, featured on their 2008 seventh studio album Dig Out Your Soul. Written and sung by lead guitarist Noel Gallagher, it was released as the third single from the album and is also the final single released by the band with the digital release occurring a day earlier.

The song debuted at 10 in the UK Singles Chart.

"Falling Down" is the fifth Oasis single to be sung by Noel rather than Liam (not including "Lord Don't Slow Me Down"). It is also the second Oasis song to be used in a TV series (the first being "Half the World Away").

"Falling Down" posted a subtle improvement from its predecessor, "I'm Outta Time" on the UK Singles Chart, reaching #10 in its chart entry week. This was something of a return to form for the band, after "I'm Outta Time" charting at #12 made it the first Oasis single released in the UK to fail to reach the top 10 since "Shakermaker" in 1994.

Between the two releases the band had put out 22 singles which made the top 10.

However, it still showed a decline in the band's fortunes; from the release of "Whatever" at the end of 1994 until the release of "I'm Outta Time" the band had only had one single which failed to reach the top 4 in the charts, and that had been 2007's "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" which was only a minor promotional release and a non-album track and also download only.

The heavily compressed drum-rhythm and sense of disillusioned psychedelia bear a strong resemblance the Beatles song "Tomorrow Never Knows", being cited as Noel's finest effort so far to emulate the atmosphere of that song.

An excerpt of the B-side song "Those Swollen Hand Blues" appears at the end of "Mucky Fingers", second track of Oasis' 2005 album Don't Believe the Truth.

The lyric: "Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly" references the quotation: "Who breaks a butterfly upon a wheel?" from Alexander Pope's "Epistle to Dr Arbuthnot".

The song was released as downloadable content for the video game Guitar Hero: World Tour on 29 January 2009.

The song was used in the opening sequence for the Production I.G anime Eden of the East, which first aired on Fuji TV's noitaminA timeslot on April 9, 2009.

Hurts’ Adam Anderson Tells Noel Gallagher And Jake Bugg To Leave One Direction Alone!

Adam Anderson has spoken out in defence of One Direction…surprisingly.

The Hurts star felt compelled to stick up for the X Factor singers, after they came under fire from all sides this month, following their win of the Global Success gong at the Brit Awards.

Jake Bugg branded the band ‘terrible’, Paloma Faith said they do not deserve to be compared to The Beatles, Matthew Fox hates the fact that his daughter is a 1D fan and Noel Gallagher is proud that he and Damon Albarn ignored the boys at the awards ceremony.

Anderson was sitting next to the fab fivesome at The Brits and he told Gigwise that he thinks people need to give them an easier time. He explained:

“I think they seem like decent lads and they’re having fun. If you were 19 and in their position then you would have fun.

“I think they should be left alone really. It’s good for the equilibrium of pop to have boybands.”

Adam thinks it’s a good thing for the UK music industry to have local artists selling well around the globe and after all, One Direction boast the third and fourth best selling albums in the world in 2012.

Anderson added: “At the end of the day they [One Direction] are a big export for music in this country. If One Direction and Adele raise the profile for British acts then fair enough.”

He thinks perhaps Brits organisers could have planned their ceremony better and added some different styled acts to the lineup. He thinks had they done that the event wouldn’t have been branded ‘boring.’

“I think there was an absence of a certain type of band which was the problem, but that’s just timing.

“It is what it is. It was still a good laugh and a good party afterwards. You make your own fun sometimes.”

Noel Gallagher's A Fan Of David Icke

Noel Gallagher doesn’t suffer fools, so fans will fall off their stools to hear he’s still an admirer of David Icke.

The High Flying Birds pal Russell Brand had the pair on his US show Brand X, filmed in London on Thursday night.

Noel said he was a fan of Icke’s and had been to his lectures with Brand.

But he went quiet when Russell and Icke started rattling on about why the pundit believes the world’s leaders are really “giant lizards” and we can only see “0.0005 per cent of reality”.

Noel interrupted to ask Russ the only sensible question of the discussion – “Can I go?”
Russell replied: “Stay to the end, don’t be an a***hole. If he goes to the pub I’m turning this thing into an orgy after I ask my mum to leave.”

It didn’t turn out that way. After the show Brand was mobbed by female fans, while Noel handed £50 to a bearded beggar. The Oasis star then headed to the Groucho club and partied with Matt Smith.

You’d need a pint after a night with Icke.

Noel Gallagher: 'Was Justin Bieber Snorting Coke Off Prostitutes?'

Noel Gallagher insists that Justin Bieber's two hour concert delay definitely does not make him rock 'n' roll.

In fact, the former Oasis star says that Justin Bieber is less rock 'n' roll than his cat - although if any cat is rock 'n' roll, it's going to be Noel Gallagher's.

According to The Sun, Noel said, "Is it rock ‘n’ roll to be two hours late? It depends on what he was doing in those two hours. Was he snorting coke off prostitutes? Or was he playing bridge?"

When he was told that Justin had been reportedly playing videogames, he responded, "That’s not very rock ’n’ roll, is it? My cat sounds more rock ’n’ roll that that."

Noel finished his rant against the star by saying, "I just know his name - Justin. Whatever. I don’t know anything about him. I know people really f**king hate him, don’t they."

Video: Russell Brand, Noel Gallagher And John Bishop Let The Expletives Run Free

Russell Brand, Noel Gallagher and John Bishop let the expletives and slaggings run free before a Comic Relief gig.

Comic Relief is a worthy cause, but it doesn't mean you can’t have fun with it. Host of the ‘Give It Up for Comic Relief’ gig, Russell Brand let loose at the fundraiser to herald the Red Nose day events next week. Joining the wild and wacky presenter before his set was Noel Gallagher, where the two bantered back and forth with plenty of cursing.

The two let their tongues loose, ‘effing’ this and ‘effing’ that, safe in the knowledge that their pre-gig interview wasn't being filmed… except it was. While Brand interviewed the infamously grumpy musician, the big screens outside the stage curtain showed their antics, and somebody filmed it. While it was not broadcast to the world, there’s plenty who will see it online.

Noel grumbled about his name being mis-spelt in the programme while Brand took the mick out of him referring to an old quote about drugs being like ‘a cup of tea’ and ‘chewing gum’.

Joining them on stage was comedian John Bishop who also bantered with Noel about their territorial differences. While the commentary was light hearted, it certainly wasn't fit for a television audience, especially after Brand’s track record with the BBC (he was fired after he prank-called Andrew Sachs live on radio in 2008).

Good, if not so clean, fun for charity. The Comic Relief Red Nose Day runs on March 15th.

Noel Gallagher On The Brit's And Electronic Cigarettes

Noel Gallagher has attempted to start another Brit war after lashing out at the ‘nonsense’ members of Muse for smoking electric cigarettes.

In the same breath, the outspoken singer followed in Robbie Williams’s footsteps by savaging the recent Brit Awards over the absence of ‘dirt-kickers’ at the music show.

‘There are no characters left in the music business,’ the 45-year-old Don’t Look Back In Anger singer moaned.

‘When we first started going there was a healthy percentage of people, and we were all dirt-kickers from council estates, and we all couldn’t believe our luck that we were at The Brits.’

Starting up on the Starlight rockers, the Mancunian whined: ‘You go in now and everybody is a careerist. It’s very corporate, and you know what I’ve actually seen people doing at the Brits? Eating.

‘I saw the drummer from Muse smoking an electronic cigarette. A cigarette with a battery in. I had to say to him: ‘Really? Really? Is that where you are at? Do me a favour mate, either have a proper one outside, or don’t have one,’ he told Time Out Dubai.

Noel boasted he was more than happy to say it to Dominic Howard’s face.

‘It lit up green when he had a drag of it. Nonsense. He said that immortal line – “Oh you know how it is mate”. And I said ‘I’m sorry mate, I actually don’t.’

Gallagher, who performed at Russell Brand’s Give It Up For Comic Relief, hasn’t been the only star to trash the awards show in recent weeks.

The events record award winner, Robbie Williams, dubbed them ‘f***ing boring’ in a recent song.
